5. Yeah, they've been pushing this line for the last few weeks
The claim is that there aren't enough rich people to cover the deficit -- that even if you taxed every one of them at 100% it would still fall short, so that leaves only the middle class.

I haven't seen a detailed analysis of this claim, but it strikes me that it deliberately leaves out corporations, as well as the possibility of modest tax increases on those in, say, the $250,000-$500,000 range.

But the GOP is starting to set us up to believe that taxing the middle class in general is the only way out of our financial problems. And we need to get on top of that and push back really hard before it becomes conventional wisdom.
