I have a lot of books that give a lot of information about what the districts used to look like and how they voted in congressional and presidential elections. One thing I've wondered is what the EV would look like if each state did what Nebraska did.
Here are some election results by Congressional District for the 1972 elections
Alabama. The districts then are pretty much the same now with the exception of the 6th and 7th districts. In the early 90s, they made the 7th add a tentacle taking in all the 90% dem precincts in Birmingham. 1st Nixon 76-24 2nd Nixon 78-22 3rd Nixon 75-25 4th Nixon 78-22 5th Nixon 75-25 6th Nixon 72-28 7th Nixon 66-34
Arizona 1st basically included downtown phoenix and the entire east Valley. 68-32 Nixon
2nd this took in Pima, Santa Cruz, Cochise counties. 57-43 Nixon
3rd took in the west Valley, Yuma, Mohave, Yavapai, and Coconino counties. 72-28 Nixon. The current 2nd is a lineal descendant of this district
4th took in Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Deer Valley area in Phoenix, most of Pinal county, and Navajo, Apache, Gila, Greenlee, and Graham counties. 71-29 Nixon
Its interesting to note that all the republican areas of Tucson were excised out of the 2nd and the well as the southern areas of the 4th to create the 5th district in 1981. Udall's district then took in Yuma proper and then extended into all the ghetto areas of Phoenix.
Arkansas the districts are basically the same as they are now with a few tweaks here and there. The 1st is basically the NE corner, the 2nd is in central Arkansas based in Little Rock, the 3rd is in the ancestrally republican Northwest part of the state and the 4th is in the southern half of the state 1st 69-31 Nixon 2nd 64-36 Nixon 3rd 74-26 Nixon 4th 69-31 Nixon
