33. I use to like squirrel stew before I
Edited on Fri May-20-11 05:17 PM by Zorra
became a vegetarian.

I've eaten bear, moose, elk, deer, pronghorn antelope, squirrel, rabbit, groundhog, rockchuck, porcupine, raccoon, pheasant, various types of grouse, ducks, partridge and quail, Canada goose, rattlesnake, crawdad, and bullfrog legs.

The ones that were completely awful were raccoon (fatty and greasy, yuk), porcupine, groundhog, rockchuck and rattlesnake. Horrible.

Here's granma's recipe for rockchuck:

Planked Rockchuck

Shoot a rockchuck that is raiding your garden. Skin and clean it. Boil well. With a sharp knife, split rockchuck down the belly. Splay it on a well soaked hardwood plank (do not use conifer planks). Nail it good and wire it securely. Marinate the rockchuck, plank and all, in a strong vegetable broth for 2 hrs. Place rockchuck upright on plank in front of hot coals on outdoor fireplace. Cook well for about two hours. When done, give the rockchuck to the dogs, and eat the plank.
