Why,exactly, is it so awful? Because he won't keep the patriarchal family name going? Who gives a sh*t??? It seems to me that is a small thing indeed compared to how Arnold smeared his own family name.

Arnold fathered a child out of wedlock at the same time his wife was pregnant. The women delivered their babies just weeks apart. Furthermore, he fathered the child with a long-time employee of the family. And he did it in the same house that he shared with Maria and their children.

And you think for the son to reject the patriarchal surname is a terrible thing to do to poor Daddy? I think it's an extremely proper thing to do under the circumstances.
