astonishing that someone could have been alive and not been to a McDonald's or at least some other drive-through at some point.
But people astonish you. Years ago on a completely different forum a man who taught college English somewhere posted stuff he got from his students. The one I remember best was the young woman, born about 1950, who honestly didn't think Japanese people even existed until WWII. From what he could gather from her, she apparently thought they just somehow sprang into existence in time for WWII. He also talked of people who had never ever been outside the small town they'd grown up in, and had a great deal of difficulty understanding that the rest of the outside world existed at all. This woman almost sounds like one of them.
