when Spain was a colony of a sheik, the muslims brought higher math, translation, the legacy of learning from thousands of years in the libraries of the east and, in essence, the birth of the renaissance after hundreds of years of ignorance based upon the church/state system that had evolved in western europe.

people of all faiths or none, who are opening to learning, share more in common than they differ because a mind that is not closed b/c of a rigid belief system is a mind that can use reason to find common ground in human rights while maintaining respect for differences.
