Pictures of Rachel Maddow Show in Kansas

What an awesome experience. Lawrence is about a 45 minute drive from my house. The venue was absolutely packed. We got there 2 hours before the show started and had to wait an hour for a table. Almost as soon as we finished eating, the show started and the place was roaring. We were around the corner in another part of the restaurant and could tell when Rachel walked in. The crowd went wild. It was deafening.

For about the first half hour we stood in the back by the bar and watched a monitor. There was a 4 second delay between what we could see and what we were hearing so it was pretty strange. Then we saw a friend who helped us weave our way through the crowd until we found a much better spot where we were able to watch Rachel. At about 33 minutes into the show when Rachel was talking about the history of Kansas, you can hear a guy yell "We beat Missouri twice!" He was standing right next to me.

Rachel was wonderful. She talked to the crowd during a couple commercial breaks and told us what she would be covering in the next segment. At the end, she thanked us and said she really liked Kansas and was definitely coming back. Someone yelled "What do you want to drink, Rachel?" And she said "I'm driving" So he yelled back "You have to drive yourself?" And she said "When I'm in a car, I do the driving. I'm a bit of a control freak".

There was also a girl there with a sign that said "MADDOW IS MY BEIBER" Rachel laughed when she saw that. I didn't see that it made it on the air.

Another interesting thing that happened is I had a conversation with Dr Kris Neuhaus, the doctor Rachel interviewed on her show. She is a friend and her story is just horrific. She worked with Dr Tiller. Until today, she had not spoken out publicly. I've known a few details of what happened to her but she revealed more on the show. She said she knew Scott Walker, the WI governor. She said he was an Operation Rescue member for many years until he was elected to office. She knows the OR people pretty well; they stalked and harassed her for years. Too creepy.
