3. I honestly think it's a result of limiting family size to one or two children
due to declining wages and the necessity of having both parents work for paychecks. With fewer eggs in the genetic survival basket, parents tend to be over protective of the ones they have instead of telling them to go play in the traffic, 50s style.

These kids who are so overscheduled and oversupervised are going to have real problems coping with down time when they grow up. This might be the perfect generation of workaholics the corporations have always longed for.

Poor kids will be much better adjusted since their parents don't have the means to schedule every waking hour with supervised activities.
