Polaris Industries notified the state Department of Workforce Development this week that it will close its plant in Osceola, in a six-month shutdown set to begin March 1. The jobs of 484 employees will be eliminated.

In its third quarter results, released in October, Polaris reported sales of $580 million, up 33 percent from the year-ago quarter, and record net income, but said it will realign manufacturing, consolidating operations in Roseau, Minn., and Spirit Lake, Iowa, and in a new factory in Monterrey, Mexico.

The Minnesota company announced in May that it would close its Osceola plant, about 270 miles northwest of Madison.

Polaris makes snowmobiles, all-terrain vehicles and motorcycles.
