It goes a hell of a lot faster than your assertion it "tops out around 90mph".

A big reason it does not run faster in other sections is the age of the overhead electric lines or "catenary", but these are being upgraded if I am not mistaken.

But yes, the Acela reaches a top speed of 150 MPH as it heads toward Providence. I've ridden it from DC to Providence and they announce that it has reached that speed over the loudspeaker.

Granted, it doesn't run 200 (but it can, from what I understand), but it is a shitload faster than 90.
