BAGHDAD, Iraq - A gunbattle between police and rebels in a central Iraqi town left one fighter dead, while a search operation netted four suspected insurgents and a weapons cache, police said Tuesday.

The gunmen involved in the clash at Mahaweel drove an SUV packed with explosives, light weapons and cash, said Capt. Hadi Hatif.

Hatif said authorities also nabbed four suspected rebels and confiscated their ammunition and explosives during a separate raid in Mahaweel, about 35 miles south of Baghdad.
