McCombs asks Fox to remove Buck from announcing team in Philly
Edited on Wed Jan-12-05 06:27 PM by mediaman007
If you haven't had enough of Randy Moss yet:

http://www.startribune.com/stories/510/5183391.html (on edit)

Minnesota Vikings owner Red McCombs asked Fox Sports to remove play-by-play announcer Joe Buck from Sunday's divisional playoff game at Philadelphia because of his sharp criticism of wide receiver Randy Moss.

After catching a touchdown pass in last weekend's win at Green Bay, Moss celebrated in the end zone by pretending to pull down his pants and moon the Packers fans before briefly wiggling his back side against the goalpost. Buck immediately called it a ``disgusting act.''

That statement, in McCombs' view, was out of line. A two-sentence news release issued by the team said McCombs felt Buck's comments ``suggested a prejudice that surpassed objective reporting.''

snip

``I have nothing against Randy Moss,'' Buck said. ``I don't even know the guy. I just know that with the history that he's had, and coming off that game at Washington, it was just stunning to see that.''

cut

Just in case you don't know, McCombs is a major partner in Clear Channel. He is also a big Bushie* contributor. I suspect he might have a little more power than Dan Bell of Fox.

1. We need another Janet Jackson
At least that "controversy" was interesting. This is just dumb. Well, once they get destroyed by the Eagles we won't hear any more. Unless Moss goes nuts and does something stupid.

3. Buck is a terrible football broadcaster
And when it comes to baseball he's your typical national sports caster: "Oh, oh, Tim! How can anybody ever beat this fine New York Yankees team?!" ; "Deryk Jeter may be the best player in baseball today!"

Good riddance.

25. looked to me like he was trying to "shit" the ball
but got the sequence mixed up. he flung the ball behind him then pulled down his pants. if he was shitting the ball, well my hat is off to him. it's an endzone celebration some of us have been waiting for for years, but it is pretty disgusting.

4. Randy Moss...
Has a penchant for getting spontaneous brain cramps from time to time.
He is one of the most talented recievers to ever play the game but his intellect does not match his talent. His gestures were insulting to the fans and were disgusting when one realizes that they were meant not only to taunt but to offend. Joe Buck was not the only one to criticize the actions. The NFL/Fox team in the studio had nothing good to say about it.

20. Ahhh the Fox Team

The same guys who were telling football fans to vote for the chimp. Bradshaw, who as a guest on the Franken show talked about the f---ing liberals, and then apologized for using the obsenity "liberal". Howie Long, who had the nerve to use the word classless in reference to Moss' actions, is hardly a class act himself.
I attended the Christmas Eve game in Minneapolis between the Vikings and the Packers and witnessed first hand just how classy the Green Bay fans can be. Believe me, a fake mooning is nothing!

5. Yeah might want to
make sure none of those ESPN guys call your games. They roasted Moss. Like the other poster said hes a phenominal talent. Pity he hasnt learned to control his behavior. I wasnt too upset with it until I realized he was mooning the fans. GB fans admitedly but still season ticketholders. Just dumb what with the way fans are starting to look at professional atheletes.

Tony Dungy said that.

Well if that's true that's quite curious indeed.

13. hmm I missed that but found this story
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/football/nfl/specials/playoffs/2004/01/10/bc.fbn.moss.mooning.ap/

Still read down to the bottom of the article. Its kinda like I tell my kid. If you contantly are in trouble they will be actively looking to catch you messing up. BTW the fans should have been told to stop that years ago if its true. If they persisted they should have been arrested.

It surprises me that so many people in this forum are willing to regurgitate the view of Randy that has become the mainstream "corporate" line. Think about it. Does is surprise anyone that the worst thing anyone can say about him is that he squirted water at a Ref? Randy has a bad boy image because he challenges the system and is willing to call it crap as he sees it. Every touchdown he catches in Minnesota nets a personal souvenir for one of the disabled kids in the corner end zone section of the Metrodome. Every year he takes a couple of bus loads of kids to an amusement park. None of that is in the press because he doesn't like the way the NFL tries to take credit for every good deed of the players with it's United Way campaign. He refuses to feed the animals because his good acts are his own, not the property of the NFL. You'd think that people here could see that and regognize the resulting wrath of the media for what it is

BTW, GB fans DO moon opposing teams. I've seen them do it (or pictures of it).

16. Moss has a ten-year history of being an ass ...
It started on his "first" college stop and hasn't ceased. I respectfully disagree with your general assessment and implication that he's one of "the good guys".

18. I believe he was told to react that way
Someone was yelling in his earpiece that he needed to appear shocked.

Just my opinion. I've never heard him call a football game but I don't really like his baseball coverage. He's a hired "voice" and does what those paying him want. (He's 100% better than Tim McCarver, though.)

I think what Moss did was stupid but nowhere near bad enough to warrant the false indignation that the Fox guys showed.

22. Joe Buck
I definetely think that Buck's comment was an overreaction. The way the media has reacted to the stupid Moss thing, you'd think that he'd actually pulled his pants down and mooned people. Nevertheless, removing a broadcaster because he was too critical of a given player/team is a terrible precedent, and so kudos to Fox for not budging. (Am I actually praising a Rupert Murdoch enterprise....I feel so dirty)

On a side note, I agree that Buck can seem somewhat biased sometimes, but I think he gets a bum rap. He's not the greatest broadcaster I've ever heard, but he is knowledgable, well-prepared, and generally enjoyable to listen to. Believe me, as someone that is trying to become a broadcaster myself, you CANT please everyone all the time, and I generally think Buck learned well from his father. Anywho, thats just one man's opinion.

Damn, all of Buck's cheerleading for the Packers. Revolting. He cheered on the Yankees vs the WORLD CHAMPION BOSTON RED SOX. Joe Buck is a LOSER.

what would have happened if Moss would have took 3 punches at the packers. There would be and outrage unknown in the football world. Flags tossed and he would have been ejected from the game I'm sure for unsportsmanlike conduct. Oh wait favre did that he is above being looked down upon and even praised for what he did by the announcers the chicken shit Moss hating bastards.

The officals didn't see a thing THREE of them.
