KTLK Brings Progressive Talk To L.A.
KTLK Brings Progressive Talk To L.A.
Jan. 20, 2005
By Chuck Taylor

The nation's No. 2 radio market is about to get a daily dose of liberal talking-to with the Feb. 3 launch of KTLK Los Angeles at 1150 AM, the former home of sports KXTA. It marks the 22nd market where Clear Channel has launched the progressive talk format.

“Progressive talk is one of the fastest growing formats in radio,” said Gabe Hobbs, CC’s VP of programming-news/talk. “We are filling a huge void that exists in Los Angeles and expect a success story similar to the other markets where we have launched progressive talk.”

Clear Channel claims to have “found significant ratings growth” in each market where it has placed the burgeoning format, with ratings up 75% in San Diego, 1,000% in Portland and 300% in Denver.

1. I can't wait....
LA radio is a cesspool of rightwing crap. Amazing that Clear Channel is doing this. Guess the bottom line is the only one they're looking at.

2. Isn't this outstanding?
I really hate to see Clear Channel start raking in huge profits after what they have done to darken the landscape for Democrats in the past, and discourage and isolate us, to manipulate public perception, influence elections, but I hope their selfishness will work in our favor if they reverse themselves now with their radio programs, and allow BOTH sides to be heard.

Thanks a lot! :hi:

3. I'm so conflicted
I want to support Progressive Radio.

But I do not want to support Clear Channel.

I drive 30 minutes a day each way to and from work.

4. I Know!!! I FEEL THE SAME WAY!
I think I'm going to listen in though -- I so miss Al Franken, I don't have computer access to stream it all the time.

6. I too am an Angelino. This is welcome news in a town with just one real
newspapers and no tabloids. Despite their exploitative nature, truth does break through their Murdochian grip" For now we must use greedy Clearchannel to spread our message of peace love, understanding, fiscal responsibility and of course fairness in media. Once the message has spread, we can then elect officials who can cut Clearchannel down to size. A ten year project if we are lucky.

5. Let's Reform Clear Channel
Our goal should be to become the majority party by such a high margin that we bring organizations like Clear Channel, etc. into our fold. Our ideas make better sense economically, internationally, socially, morally, and in every other respect, so why shouldn't we be able to persuade people who are staunch Republicans today that they should join us? So they are wrong today. Maybe if they listen to enough Air America Radio, they will get right with common sense.
