US Republican Chair Draws Party Fire on Abortion
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Some Republican Party backers of abortion rights are upset with their party's new chairman, Ken Mehlman, for planning to host a salute next week to those who favor banning abortion.

"This crosses the line," Ann Stone, national chair of Republicans for Choice, a political action group with about 100,000 members nationwide, said on Friday.
...
Said Stone: "This is the first we ever knew about it (such an event). We would have complained sooner."

"The Republican Party chairman is to represent all Republicans, not just those who oppose abortion," Stone said, adding that polls show most Republicans support a woman's right to choose to have an abortion. President Bush opposes abortion.
...
The RNC, in an e-mail to key party activists this week, wrote: "Please join Ken Mehlman ... as we honor those who march for the Right to Life. We'll also be joined by several members of Congress who have been instrumental in our party's fight to protect the sanctity of life."

2. I hope we have protestors
With big "Sanctity of Life" signs with photos of the young Iraqi victims.

Poor Ann Stone, and all those Republicans for Choice. I guess they didn't think their rights would be next.

3. Ann Stone is stupid. Her group makes about as much sense as the LCR
The "Log Cabin Republicans" and the "Republicans for Choice" have got to be two groups that are gnashing their teeth now. I can tell you right now what the attitude of George W. Bush and Ken Mehlman's Republican Party is: WE WON. WHY DO WE HAVE TO CHANGE. I know if the Democrats swept all three branches of government with our current platform I'd be pretty hostile towards some DLC twit who called for the party to be anti-abortion or anti-gay.

Exactly what has Stone's group accomplished within the Republican Party over the last 20 years? They are just running around in circles and banging their heads against the wall. If pro-choice on abortion is really that important to her, then she should realize the futility of sticking with the Republican Party. Democrats are the pro-choice party.

6. Choice Isn't REALLY That Important To Them
or else they never would have voted for Dubya.
I mean, maybe they really believe in trickle down economics, or social darwinism. Maybe they really support Bush's pre-emptive war.
Fine. But don't get all in a huff about losing your reproductive rights. Pretty much same deal to the Log Cabi Republicans. Just use that tax break you got to have an attorney draw up the paper work, and maybe, just maybe, your partner can have similiar legal rights as an opposite sex spouse. It was a package deal, toots, you picked which you like best, now like it or lump it.

It's the rest of us who are screwed.

11. You are right. Tax breaks are more important. They know they will always
be able to afford abortions. They care more about money than the rights of other women.

10. What can you say about a gay man . . .
who encouraged the Republicans to use gay bashing as part of the campaign? I just keep hoping he'll stumble at some point and find out none of his idiot associates will be there to help him up.

Jeez louise, lady. What did she *think* the ultra-right wingnuts have been talking about doing all the while they were taking over the three branches of our government???

Exactly four years ago, on Bush's very first day in the Oval Office, he reinstated the Global Gag Order. I almost drove off the freeway when I heard that on the radio -- I wonder if it even registered in Ann Stone's brain. Poor women a world away are dying to support pro-pregnancy politics, women and girls in the USA are shunned, shamed, threatened, and misinformed -- but Ann Stone hasn't noticed it until now?!

Too late, baby. For whatever reason, pro-choice Republicans wanted this *hole, and now they have him. Unfortunately, so do the rest of us.

Here's my New Year's toast for Ann Stone and her friends: "May your next four years with Bush be as bad a nightmare as my last four years!"

Hekate
