Dems Press Bush to Fire Aides Over Iraq
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030916/ap_on_go_co/congress_iraq&cid=512&ncid=1480

WASHINGTON - House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday exhorted President Bush to fire advisers who helped him set U.S. policy in Iraq, saying miscalculations have cost American lives.

The California Democrat was joined in that call by Rep. John Murtha (news, bio, voting record), D-Pa., a Vietnam combat veteran and senior member of the House Appropriations Committee. "We can't allow these bureaucrats to get off while these young people are paying such a heavy price," Murtha said at a joint news conference with Pelosi.

Neither lawmaker would specify who should lose their jobs. Asked whether Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld should be fired, Murtha said, "I've never known a secretary of defense to set the policy."

Murtha and Pelosi said that Congress should quickly approve Bush's request for $87 billion in additional assistance for U.S. military operations and reconstruction of Iraq and Afghanistan. But they said the administration must provide details of how it spent $62 billion that Congress provided earlier this year for the war in Iraq and for worldwide efforts against terrorism.

18. I will not rate this one:
a high rating is not deserved, given the spinelessness of Pelosi's comments; but a low rating could be taken as meaning that articles shouldn't report on criticisms of Dubya, no matter how spineless the criticisms are.

6. Delay's quote is hilarious
"Fighting this war on terror is something nobody's ever done before, so there will obviously be mistakes here and there,"

Yeah, invading Iraq was just a little mistake. Oops.

8. "quickly approve" the $87b??
:wtf:

yes, they do want an accounting of the first $62b but this article makes it sound like the next $87b should be granted "no strings attached"--I deplore that.

and why fire "aides"?? screw that--FIRE BUSH TOO.

9. Don't fire them, promote them
That's how * dealt with all of the intelligence officials who ignored the warnings before September 11, 2001. Otherwise they might talk to the press.

13. So Ms. AIPAC/Likud (Pelosi) thinks we should just hand over...
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 01:48 PM by Flying_Pig
the $87 billion huh? Screw her. She's been a traitor to the party, and to this nation, with her subservience to AIPAC/Likud (which means she also supports PNAC's goals), and her weak opposition to the Bush regime. We need new leaders in this party, from the top down, and until we get them, there will continue to be collusion from the group of pink-tutus currently holding these offices!

:grr:

16. I don't think Pelosi is saying anything wrong
Pelosi wants details on what happened to the first $62 billion, and a firing of some of the neo-cons, perhaps Cheney.

Pelosi's little stumbling blocks may make the approval of Bush's $87 not so 'quick.' Thus Bush's failure to fire his staff, might force all the Democrats to reluctantly fail to approve Bush's invasion appropriation.

I think Pelosi is just giving Bush some good old fasioned double-speak.

19. If you'd rather not say that the Pretzel-Dunce should quit, Nancy,
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 03:46 PM by rocknation
then don't say anything. Targeting his aides is not only a copout, it turns Bush into a sympathetic victim of his neocon-artist handlers. If his aides arebthat incompetent, you can rest assured it that would have penetrated even HIS brain by now that he should get rid of them. Now, watch and learn:

WIMPY!!!!!
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday exhorted President to fire advisers who helped him set U.S. policy in Iraq, saying miscalculations have cost American lives.

NOT WIMPY!!!!
"House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday exhorted President Bush to RESIGN due to HIS U.S. policy in Iraq, saying that HIS miscalculations have cost American, IRAQI, and AFGHANI lives."

WIMPY!!!!
Murtha and Pelosi said that Congress should quickly approve Bush's request for $87 billion in additional assistance for U.S. military operations and reconstruction of Iraq and Afghanistan.

NOT WIMPY!!!!
But they said the administration must provide details of how it spent $62 billion that Congress provided earlier this year for the war in Iraq and for worldwide efforts against terrorism.

MEGA NOT WIMPY!!!
As for the $87 billion, the Democrats said they wanted more details on how Bush envisions spending his latest request...

Final Grade: C+
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT: Make them shed blood, sweat and tears for that money! AND DON'T TAKE "NATIONAL SECURITY REASONS" FOR AN ANSWER!!!

21. Well said! Of course, Lieberman should resign, too
Additionally, Pelosi should ask for resignations from members of her own party who ardently backed--and still back--the war in Iraq.

Remember: Iraq didn't occur without the concupiscence of many Congressional Democrats willing to lay down for Bush.
