No Apology in Cupertino School Flap (Dec. of Independence fiasco)
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/local/10772305.htm?1c

Parents at Stevens Creek Elementary want a Christian-ministry-backed legal group to apologize for the weeks of tumult that struck the Cupertino campus after a teacher sued school officials for blocking his use of classroom handouts with religious references.

Use of the word ``ban'' in media coverage and in statements by the legal group gave rise to many of the disagreements since the lawsuit's filing Thanksgiving week.

To publicize the lawsuit, the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based legal group issued a statement headlined, ``Declaration of Independence Banned from Classroom.'' In smaller type below: ``School district forbids teacher from providing handouts that reference significant documents in U.S. history because they mention God.''

1. God when we will be delivered from the MSM seriously
If it were not for a few decent writers we would be completely un-informed

Kick! Glad to see their BS blow up in their faces, they crossed the line, again.

Backlash one person at a time.

2. This is one of those stories that has been twisted
in so many different ways that it no longer resembles the truth.

I think it was right here on DU that I read several great articles explaining this mess. The teacher was never told he could not teach the Declaration of Independence. He had been repeatedly warned after numerous parent complaints over at least a year's time to stop preaching to his kids. He is a fundie who wears God on his sleeve and promotes a religious agenda. And in a 5th grade public school classroom! Many parents had requested that their kids NOT be placed in his room. That is a warning flag right there that this teacher should have heeded. But he chose to ignore the parent complaints and what his principal told him not to do.

This is one of those 'too bad, so sad' situations. It is insulting for him to file a lawsuit and claim discrimination. He is damn lucky to still have a job. But if he ends up losing his job after all this is settled, there are surely a few Christian schools in this community who would gladly hire him.

4. Yes, I read the same thing...
He was warned several times to stop pushing his religious views on his students.

I couldn't read the whole article because I'm not going to register, but I assume he got shot down on his discrimination suit attempt?

5. No I believe it is still
in the process.

This is a lot like the story of the girl who asked to wear the confederate flag dress to her prom, was told no, wore it anyway and then filed a lawsuit.

These people aren't fighting for a cause. They just don't want to follow directions. So they file lawsuits that clog up the courts and they get tons of free publicity in the process.

6. Sad but true.
Where is that rapture anyway? Or Jim Jones and his Koolaid coctail when you need him?

3. I grew up near Cupertino. They're messing with the wrong people
It's in the heart of Silicon Valley and there's a church or temple every two feet. BUT, people like privacy with their preaching. They're not going to back down on this one.
