Florida GOP leaders opposing Bush effort to privatize more services
TALLAHASSEE -- Rocked by scandals and shoddy results, Gov. Jeb Bush's drive to turn over many state services and millions of taxpayer dollars to private companies appears certain to be slowed by the state's newly minted Republican leaders.

House Speaker Allan Bense of Panama City and Senate President Tom Lee of Brandon say they will put the brakes on privatization efforts this year, a sudden shift away from what has been a cornerstone of Florida government since Bush took office six years ago.
...
"The mother of all privatization efforts is what he is talking about with his Medicaid proposal," said Iris Lav, deputy director of the Washington-based Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, which sees Florida as a possible model for what President Bush will propose at the federal level.

Gov. Bush, in his second inaugural address, spoke of emptying Tallahassee's downtown buildings of workers, turning the structures into "silent monuments to the time when government played a larger role than it deserved or could adequately fill."

1. Someboy has a conscience and that conscience has COMPASSION.
It is about time! Somebody needs to put a stop to the stranglehold policies of these bushes! And! If the stop sign comes from people in their own PARTY... hallelujah God Almighty. Somebody has a conscience and that conscience has COMPASSION! Something those highfalutin bush SOBs (sons of Barbara) completely and utterly, totally lack!

2. Yeah, and when we privatize services,
Edited on Mon Jan-31-05 12:49 PM by bushwentawol
that expenditure just falls off the tax rolls right? Wrong! All the repugs do is transfer the tax $$ from a gov't agency to a company run by a political crony.

3. Oh dear, oh dear...
trouble in paradise! Apparently some naughty republicans didn't get the memo.

I really, really don't like this idea where we have a president, and not only does he have a lock on the federal government, but he has a lock on one state's government. Too much nepotism. Especially when the president in question is the worst yet.

5. Good news. Hope these Republicans follow up by opening their eyes,
finally, to the deadly impact the Bush programs have on the people of this country. Running out of time, we're going to need to believe they'll continue waking up, as soon as possible, before it's simply too late.

According to the article, "Bush has eliminated more than 10,000 government positions since taking office, in part through privatization." Not impressive!

The quote above from his inaugural address is preposterous. He and his cronies are totally out of touch with the lives and needs of the people. Indefensible.
