US won't stay in Iraq 'a day longer than necessary': Cheney
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/afp/usiraq

US Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites), in an interview with Fox News Sunday, one week after Iraq's first free elections in a half century, also said Iraqis will form a government that will reflect Iraqi culture and will not be "an Iraqi version of America."

<snip>

"Once we've completed the mission, we've stood up an effective Iraqi government and they have security forces in place to be able to take care of their own, then we're out of there," Cheney said. "We have no desire to stay a day longer than necessary."

<snip>

But, Cheney said, "the test for our departure has to come with respect to when we've completed the mission, not some artificial deadline we might decide on now as part of a political compromise.

"And I think we'll find that, in fact, that will be the view that will prevail in the new Iraqi government," he said.

1. Are we taking all our bases with us?
After building all those permanent bases it would be a shame just to leave them behind.

6. Already been there about two years longer than was necessary... I wonder
if that thought has ocurred to these war criminals... I feel that if America didn't have the military that it does, several other nations would spank her for her childish behavior, make her stand in the corner, and maybe even torture some of her citizens.

Gonzo says torture is just alright with me

12. The day the war began
was a day longer than necessary. I wonder what his definition of "an effective Iraqi government" is - hopefully it's the one that's elected, but I'm just not sure - what if something went wrong with the cheating...oops I mean the election, and they're not the ones we want in there?

He doesn't give a shit about "the view that prevails in the new Iraqi government", nor any other government. I think they're going to want us out way sooner than he's ready for us to leave, and it's not going to be pretty.

13. Weapons of mass destruction and a mushroom cloud
were the reasons given for the necessity of this war. Since they do not exist, the necessity is over. NO LONGER NECESSARY to stay. Following that logic, I guess the boys must already be on their way home. Unless it was all just a bunch of lies?!?

14. A meaningless statement
Since they define how long is necessary, this is nothing but a tautology. He is hinting that they won't follow any Iraqi directive that they don't like, though:

"But, Cheney said, "the test for our departure has to come with respect to when we've completed the mission, not some artificial deadline we might decide on now as part of a political compromise.

"And I think we'll find that, in fact, that will be the view that will prevail in the new Iraqi government," he said."

15. How many words does it take to say nothing?
Ask Cheney, 'cause that's what his statement means.....nothing.

It's like saying:

We'll stop earning money when we have enough.
or
I'll be well when I'm not sick anymore.
or
I'll be taller when I've grown a bit more.
or
(insert your own version of nonsensical statement here)

Truth is, we'll be in Iraq for the foreseeable future. The U.S. is building HUGE PERMANENT BASES THERE, for gosh sakes. Why don't reporters ask him about that when he says such nonsensical things? Or are those reporters on the payroll, too?
