5 Units of Military Reserve Miss Recruiting Goals
By ERIC SCHMITT

Published: February 17, 2005

WASHINGTON, Feb. 17 - In a sign of continued stress on the armed forces from operations in Iraq, five of the six military reserve components have failed to meet their recruiting goals for the first four months of the current fiscal year, the military's top officer said on Wednesday.

The officer, Gen. Richard B. Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the House Armed Services Committee that only the Marine Corps Reserve had achieved its recruiting quota through January.

3. Clarification they meant the Marine Corp
not the Marine Corp Reserve, just slightly different animal.

Still this is NOT good news

I wonder if Myers will be forced out for actually talking the truth for ONCE.

13. Kid down the street
Enlisted in the Army out of HS last June. They wouldn't take him because he was underweight. They gave him 6 months to gain at least 10 lbs. In the meantime, they gave him a job as a local recruiter. In the past 6 months he only gained 5 lbs. We just heard that he was accepted into the MARINES (still is underweight by the Army standards). He left two weeks ago for basic training. So, apparently even the Marines have lowered their standards. They MUST be getting desperate. By the way the kid is 6' and weighs 145 lbs.

Was it around 4,000,000? Gee, you'd think those psycho-patriots would be eager to "defend freedumb" under their Führer! :eyes:

5. Just triple recruitment officers in the red states
and post more flags outside recruitment offices.

Hardly anyone can name the top "evil doers" in the countries of Iran and Syria. Post their images everywhere and increase govt. insider pay to RW media whores to propagandize them to the max.

Then, you'll have your quota.

14. I can just hear that poor sod in the wheelchair
"Red Bull may give you wings, but what I'd really like, Mr. President, is my legs back."

It's a comfort to know that if that kid grows up to be a Senator, some Republican operative will stick the shiv of character assassination into him in favor of some candy-ass who didn't go to Iraq and get shot up.

Ain't that America somethin' to see?

16. Why didn't georgie have this kid as a quest at the SOTU love fest?
Sadly, this time around the media has been selective (and successful), at what this country will see on the nightly news.

Remember georgie boy every dog has its day.:grr:

8. Nobody wants to join up if they think they will have to fight
They join for the perceived benefits and alternative to unemployment/walmart jobs. I would guess that it will just get worse for them.

11. It also helps if there is a real good REASON to fight.
Guess what. We don't have one. Ergo, recruiting drops like a rock.

18. Good job, George. With one rock you killed two birds.

Destroyed the nation of Iraq and at the same time you destroyed the American military.

Now THAT'S planning.
