Congress' approval rating on the slide
Fewer Americans approve of the way Congress is handling its job than at any time since shortly after Republicans impeached President Clinton, a Gallup Poll finds.

Only 37% of Americans gave Congress a high approval rating, down from 45% last month, the poll taken last week showed. A total of 53% disapproved, up from 48% in February.

It was the worst showing for Congress since September 1999, the year after the Republican-controlled House of Representatives impeached Clinton.

Even then, Congress had an identical 37% approval rating. It hasn't been lower since October 1997.

4. It's all those other Congress critters that are the problem!
Everybody thinks their own Representative is da bomb; it's all those OTHER fools in Congress that need to go. But the advantages of incumbency are so great, turnover is nearly impossible. Tom Delay knows that the good folks of Sugarland will return him to his seat every two years, and all his other foibles don't mean a thing next to that. He'll ride out this latest little tempest and not even get his hair mussed.

9. Delay can be defeated
the worst mistake we can make is think he's undefeatable. A lot of his constituents had Bush and Morrison (D) signs in their yards.

That piece of shit just has to go. It may be easier to take him down in the midterm elections.

10. I'm all for it
Few things would make me happier than to read news stories about "former Representive Tom Delay who resigned in disgrace" or who was booted out of office by an angry constituency that he had grown increasing out of touch with. (Okay, "former Justice Scalia" or "former Justice Slappy" would make me happier.)

Delay's corruption is so massive and has gone on for so long, though, and he keeps getting re-elected. Apparently the folks in Sugarland like corruption because they keep voting for it.

3. There it is again...that 30's number. Only 37% gave Congress a high
approval rating. Only 35% believe the privatization theft plan. The number of die-hard followers and swallowers is always only in the 27-37 range when the issue is serious stuff.

5. Time to put an end to corrupt one party control.
Republicans now hate the phrase "corrupt one party control," but it can be used in reference to every issue. It also nationalizes the next election.

Soaring deficits? All due to corrupt one party control.

Senate filibusters of judicial nominees? All due to corrupt one party control.

Growth of the republican nanny state? All due to corrupt one party control.

Healthcare unaffordable or unavailable? All due to corrupt one party control.

The republican War on Social Security? All due to corrupt one party control.

The lies leading up to the invasion of Iraq? All due to corrupt one party control.

The lies leading up to Bush's next war? All due to corrupt one party control.

Slowest job growth since Hoover was president? All due to corrupt one party control.

Tax code too complicated? All due to corrupt one party control.

Reproductive rights threatened or ignored? All due to corrupt one party control.

Environmental protections being weakened or ignored? All due to corrupt one party control.

Veterans' benefits being cut? All due to corrupt one party control.

Homeland security a farce? All due to corrupt one party control.

Disappearing etical standards in Congress? All due to corrupt one party control.

As Lord Acton said: "Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely."

7. You are so right
It is clear to me that one party control is the root cause of our problems.

Then why do so many DUers argue that each and every Dem candidate must agree with them on every single issue?

It seems to me that Democrats have to learn that in order to have the power to put the brakes on some of the worst Republican offenses, we are going to have to learn to get along with each other.

8. What do they expect?
When one becomes a fascist rubber stamp, people WILL notice eventually. People are getting sick up and fed with all the nonsense.
