Israeli Spy Jonathan Pollard Fights Life Sentence

WASHINGTON (AP) - Lawyers for convicted spy Jonathan Pollard ran into tough questioning in a federal appeals court Tuesday as they argued that Pollard's life prison term stemmed from lies by the government and failure by his previous attorneys to represent him properly.

Judge David Sentelle, a member of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, suggested that Pollard's lawyers are on weak legal ground and said that granting their request to revive the case would mean that "you've opened the floodgates" for hundreds of other prisoners sentenced long ago. snip

Admitting to a single count of conspiring to spy for Israel, Pollard thought he had a deal to receive U.S. government support for a shorter sentence because he provided details of his espionage.

What he got instead, he says, was a full-court press by the Reagan administration that helped persuade a judge to put him behind bars for the rest of his life. He's serving his sentence at the federal prison in Butner, N.C.

1. How odd...
That was the same judge who screwed Clinton badly.

But I support this one. Or at least 50 years for the guy.

2. Screw Pollard let him rot.
I was serving on Submarines when he and his Israeli handlers gave away our positions to the Russians. He needs to stay in jail.

4. Pollard
If our congress people had any balls, they would withhold the three billion dollar welfare check we send Israel each year until they return the traitor.

6. Perhaps
Maybe they should do that to all the countries we give "welfare" checks to that violate our policies.

5. Pollard is a hero!
Actually he isn't, but at the very least Israel should have come forward and claimed him as one of their own. Pollard would have been extradited to Israel instead of being charged with espionage.
