Iraq Council Member Dies of Wounds from Attack -US
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20030925/ts_nm/iraq_hashemi_dc&cid=564&ncid=1480

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Akila al-Hashemi, a member of Iraq's U.S.-appointed Governing Council, has died from wounds sustained in a gun attack on Saturday, the head of the country's U.S.-led administration said on Thursday.

"On behalf of the Coalition Provisional Authority and all its members, I offer condolences to her family, her colleagues on the Governing Council and the people of Iraq," Paul Bremer said in a written statement.

Gunmen fired on a car carrying Hashemi, a career diplomat from a prominent Shi'ite Muslim family, near her home in a Baghdad suburb on Saturday morning. She sustained wounds to the abdomen. Three people traveling with her were also wounded.

After initial treatment in a Baghdad hospital, she was transferred to a U.S. military hospital.

to continue to attack our chosen government.

Now may she rest in peace... but wanna bet more attacks

4.  she was transferred to a U.S. military hospital.
After initial treatment in a Baghdad hospital, she was transferred to a U.S. military hospital. Wonder if it cost her family $8.10 a day to stay there---

Just a thought. Nothing too good for th U.S. Lapdog puppet govt.

5. I thought they said she was in stable condition.
This is very said, apparently she was not too bad.

This from Riverbend:

Sunday, September 21, 2003

There was an attempt yesterday on Akila Al-Hashimi's life. We heard about yesterday morning and have been listening for news ever since. She lives in Jihad Quarter and was leaving for work yesterday when two pick-up trucks with armed men cut off her car and opened fire on her and her 'bodyguards'- her brothers. (snip)

It's depressing because she was actually one of the decent members on the council. She was living in Iraq and worked extensively in foreign affairs in the past. It's also depressing because of what it signifies- that no female is safe, no matter how high up she is...

Everyone has their own conjectures on who it could have been. Ahmad Al-Chalabi, of course, right off, before they even started investigations said, "It was Saddam and his loyalists!"- he's beginning to sound like a broken record... but no one listens to him anyway. (snip)

But there has been bitterness towards her by some of the more extreme members of the Governing Council- not only is she female, wears no hijab and was the first actual 'foreign representative' of the new government, but she was also a prominent part of the former government. (snip)
