UK minister slams US ''axis of evil fantasy''-paper

LONDON, Sept. 25 — The British government's leader in parliament has urged the United States to be cautious in its dealings with what it calls the ''axis of evil'' states, the New Statesman magazine said on Friday.

As the United States ratcheted up pressure on Iran, which Washington accuses of pursuing nuclear weapons, House of Commons leader Peter Hain warned against attacking the country.

''I don't know anybody serious in government who thinks that we can replicate Syria or Iran or North Korea with what happened in Iraq,'' the minister was quoted as saying.

U.S. President George W. Bush cautioned Iran on Thursday against developing nuclear weapons after diplomats said the U.N. nuclear watchdog had found traces of arms-grade enriched uranium at a site in Iran. (snip/..)
