Serious security flaws at the Ministry of Defence, leading City firms and the office of a High Court judge are exposed by the Evening Standard today.
The organisations - along with thousands of ordinary Londoners - are broadcasting their secret information into the street via the wireless devices that are now increasingly used to link computers to a network or the internet.
Any "unencrypted" data on the wireless signal can be picked up by anyone up to 500 feet away.
In a few hours, a computer expert working with the Standard found more than 650 insecure, unscrambled wireless connections in central and north London. The Standard expert could have gained access to:
