Taliban Kill Seven Bodyguards of Afghan Governor
http://asia.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=worldNews&storyID=3519529

KABUL (Reuters) - Taliban guerrillas killed seven bodyguards of the governor of the volatile southern province of Helmand at the weekend in the latest of a series of violent strikes by the resurgent movement, officials said on Sunday.

Haji Mohammad Ayoub, deputy chief of police in Helmand, told Reuters Taliban fighters attacked a military vehicle carrying the soldiers at Sangin district, northeast of Helmand's capital Lashkargah, on Saturday night.

He said the governor, Sher Mohammad Akhundzada, was not traveling with them. Five soldiers died instantly and two within a few hours, he said.

Haji Muhammad Wali, a spokesman for the governor, said at least 10 guerillas in two cars staged the attack. They escaped but abandoned one car with a mechanical problem.

2. I hear them all the time, bragging about how we WON in Afghanistan

It's too bad that no one told the Taliban that they lost.. I think we let them all escape, so we would have a reason to stay there..

Karzai has no control over the country.. The minute we pull our bodyguards out, he's a goner, and he knows it..

Pakistan seems to be turning a blind eye towards the whole thing.. Every so ofetn they "catch" comeone, but for the most part, they look the other way.

4. This is the best
we're ever going to get in Afghanistan. as least for the forseeable future.

As long as Pakistan has no control of the borderlands, the Taliban will be free to come and go as they please. If we're lucky, we can keep them tied up fighting in the southern regions, with occasional terrorist bombings into the cities.

It reminds me of Vietnam and Cambodia where the Viet Cong could stage cross border raids into Vietnam and then retreat into Cambodia.
