Records: Writer at White House 196 Times(Gannongate)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/04/25/AR2005042501254.html

The Associated Press
Monday, April 25, 2005; 8:21 PM

WASHINGTON -- A conservative writer who quit his job covering President Bush amid criticism for his pointedly political questions visited the White House 196 times in two years, the Secret Service has disclosed...

...Guckert posed questions with conservative overtones, attracting scrutiny from liberal bloggers who linked Guckert with online domain addresses suggestive of gay pornography. Guckert resigned in February...

...Democratic Reps. Louise Slaughter of New York and John Conyers of Michigan filed a freedom of information request and were given Secret Service records of Guckert's visits to the White House.

33. I cannot believe this story
Why is it so short? This matter deserves much more attention from the Post than this teeny little article. This scumbag was in the WH, as I understand it, on Sundays, on days when there was no WH briefing, sometime showed up a significant amount of time before a briefing began and stayed long after it was done. If this is the best we can hope for from the so-called "mainstream" media, we are in trouble, and the truth will never come out. This guy had a great deal of access to the WH, and why this isn't the lead story in all the newspapers, I don't understand. I commend blogs such as "Raw Story" for keeping the pressure on, but if the big news orgs don't go after it too, it will die, just as the Plame matter has.

53. Loreena Bobbitt and the missing "member" was buried...
in the Wash Post Metro section (I remember reading it way back when) and that story eventually took off like gangbusters. Hopefully this one will too. I agree with you though - a male prostitute having seemingly unfettered access to the White House is front-page news and I guess it's up to us to keep the pressure on Corporate Media. They're all about making money - seems they couldn't miss with this one.

But, ya know they are just "bloggers".

I like Americablog's take on Raw Story's because he cuts to the chase of what we need to know. I need to learn that.

America blog's article perma link: http://americablog.blogspot.com/2005/04/gannonguckert-visited-white-house.html

Raw Story: http://rawstory.com/exclusives/byrne/secret_service_gannon_424.htm

RS has a lot more details.

that doesn't insult the other members of the group. "Writer" insults true writers. "Prostitute" insults honorable members of that profession.

86. But which high-profile DEMs will echo these questions?
That is the question.

Alone, Conyers and Savage are easily written off as "Micheal Moore conspiracy nuts"- In fact, most people outside of DU dont even know who they are...

...but if 15 or so top DEMs stand up by their sides for the truth about media propaganda ,that would grow this story some legs.

I hope this story blows up, but if it dies, dont blame the GOP owned media for not repeating Conyer's questions/talking points for us.

public opinion on the Filibuster, and on the Schiavo case. I think they've been quite busy lately trying to defend the democracy from the tyranny of the majority. I'm surprised they've had time to continue to move on the Gannon case and I'm very happy about it. I think the Bull Dog's bf is Scott McClellan, whatever his name is, the press secretary.

Americans love politics as soon as "the sex" comes into the picture.
This story has it all- porn/prostitue sex, media and politics.

I think Gannon is a great springboard for DEMs to start discussing media propaganda. We cant win big on any issues until we do somthing about GOP/media propaganda-and expose the RW sound machine...

As far as whether anyone gives a hoot- lets dig a little deeper and get some talkingpoints out there b/f we say that...

29. Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit
If you have had enough, then put these threads on ignore.

This is the STORY OF THE YEAR. It hooks to Plame, it hooks to undue influence, it hooks to incompetent security in what should be the most secure building in the land, bar none, it hooks to the Dasche-Thune race, it hooks to the CBS memogate business, it hooks to the attempted smearing of Jamie Gorelick...oh, and it hooks to hooking, too. Don't believe me? OK, check out these posts by "Jeff Gannon" at that website that cannot be named: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/user-posts?name=jeff+gannon

Read them all. There are PAGES of them. This guy was feeding talking points to the nitwits, and doing it as a White House "reporter" and champion of their cause. He has his finger in every little pie, and what I find fascinating is that these posts do not SOUND LIKE JIMMYJEFF. I've watched him on the tee vee, and he cannot put a sentence together. I've looked at his new website, and he does not write with the same grammar and cadence of these posts, at all. Is he suddenly getting STUPID? Or does he lack the "help" that he used to have?

Be sure to check out his spirited defense of Scott McClellan to one of the members at that site who thought Mr. Press Secretary stunk in his new job. "I looked into his eyes?" Please!!!! Could this be love?

John Byrne needs to gets some elves checking times when JimmyJeff was snuggling up with Scotty against these posts. These posts, come to think of it, do sound a bit like Scotty...

Peace back atcha. Feel free to put me on ignore.

31. Why would I put you on ignore? I like to hear other opinions
Especially yours, MADem, you've posted some great stuff. Diversity of viewpoint is a beautiful thing. :-)

I really agree with what you say in your post, and it gets my blood pumping all over again. What prompts my desire to focus on other topics now is a practical observation that this hasn't gone anywhere with many people in the center (puzzling), and virtually no one on the right (not puzzling). The right defangs it (in their view) by pointing out what they call left hypocrisy regarding gays and sex workers, and at least some in the center seem to resonate with that. But even without the wingnut "defanging," a major chunk of the electorate just can't seem to get bothered about it, despite the salaciousness. Again, I'm just observing here.

I was excited in the beginning when this story broke, but after months of seeing DU burn with Gannon fever, and the rest of the country basically yawning, I've concluded that in the world outside DU some topics are like damp wood, and it's tough to light a fire with damp wood. To be perfectly clear: this story SHOULD be above-the-fold copy in all the papers. But it's not. The practical politician in me says, pick your battles, and don't charge uphill if you don't have to.

As I mentioned in an earlier reply, however, I will keep my powder dry a little longer. The fact that I'm still looking in Gannongate threads should tell you where I'm coming from.

Peace.

32. Well, you said you'd had enough!
So I figured ignore is the way to resolve that issue, because I am not gonna stop talking about this -- where there's smoke, there's fire...and the smoke is coming from Gannon the Cannon, who has apparently been shot off once too often!

Look, a few months ago, all we had was a hooker-faux journalist with a web site associated with the GOP. They LIED, they said it wasn't a big deal to get a day pass. They poo poo'd, they MINIMIZED the number of times ole JimmyJeff got in, as it were. JimmyJeff lied about it, too.

NOW we have times, dates, places. Many times, many dates, many entryways, assorted exits. Who uses these entryways and exits routinely? Not everyone goes in and out the same door...it would take an hour or two to get in to go to work if that were the case. We can match all of his WH time up against his busy little posts on the website that cannot be named--and that is just for starters. We can parse the language, deconstruct the verbiage, and we can come to the conclusion that this little creep had help. Better still, if this petit-scandal ever gets to the investigative stage, those IP addresses will tell us a smiling shitload.

We can find out who owned those temporary card reader passes, who signed for them, what office kept them for their personal visitors. We can find out, through the miracle of FOIA, who was "in the building" and who was "off the ranch" on the days in question. Those documents are the gift that keeps on giving, and Slaughter and Conyers are not about to stop hounding the White House and their security personnel until all of their questions are answered.

The cardreader records are a real key to this. Not the only key, but they are a HUGE first crack in the dam.

As I said in another thread, "Run, little Dutch Boy, RUN!!!!!"

30. A hundred papers have the AP article up, even the Guardian has it
You have to give the news cycle at least three days to fact check and get a few quotes so that they aren't just copying John Byrne's work. I find it pretty damn impressive that AP went with what they did, especially in this right wing environment.

Trash tabloids come out once a week, and they are gonna want pictures. Most people who "read" those things don't read all that well.

Trust me, the prostitution is a salacious angle, and don't we all love sleaze, but this is way bigger than just a little futtbucking between conspiracies in the White House. This has to do with the White House spreading propaganda, using a prop called Gannon. That chump makes Armstrong Williams look like a bit player.

Which is how many times he signed out without signing in.. and the large, unaccounted for times at the White House Guckert enjoyed. AND.. why the fuck he was there, at the White House, while the rest of the press was on AF1 events. WHY isn't that in there? This article and its lack of information is meaningless to most people. The story that came out last night on Raw Story is the most salient.. and is being avoided like a male prostitute at a White House tea.. oh, never mind.

36. Lame Stream Media and the Fundies.
The word must have gotten out to them from Rove not to discuss this. The fact that they both have kept silent on this must tell us something, yes?

I believe that this situation could lead to a wide net scandle and that is why the RW is trying to keep it as non-issue.

But the top name DEMs are going to have to go on TV and back up Conyers on this if it is to remain on the front pages.

I have fleshed out this story with the salient points. Too bad there was so little room they had to be left out.

A FRAUDULENT conservative writer who quit his job covering President Bush amid criticism for his pointedly ASS-KISSING political questions visited the White House 196 times in two years, the Secret Service has disclosed. SOME OF THOSE VISITS TOOK PLACE ON SUNDAYS, SOME WHEN THERE WAS NO PRESS BRIEFING SCHEDULED, SOME WHICH TOOK PLACE HOURS BEFORE OR AFTER THE BRIEFING OCCURRED, AND SOME WHEN HE WAS SIGNED EITHER IN BUT NOT OUT, OR OUT BUT NOT IN.

James D. Guckert, who wrote under the name Jeff Gannon, was Washington bureau chief (DESPITE HAVING NO PRIOR JOURNALISTIC EXPERIENCE) for Talon News, a conservative online news outlet THAT WAS ACTUALLY A WEEK-OLD WEB SITE (WHICH SHOULD HAVE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED IT FOR A WHITE HOUSE PRESS PASS), associated with another CONSECRATIVE Web site, GOPUSA, WHOSE PARTISANSHIP ALSO SHOULD HAVE DISQUALIFIED TALON FOR A WHITE HOUSE PRESS PASS. Guckert posed questions with SYCOPHANTICALLY conservative overtones, attracting scrutiny from liberal bloggers who linked Guckert with online domain addresses THAT HE HIMSELF REGISTERED suggestive of gay pornography, SOME OF WHICH FEATURED PHOTOS OF HIM IN THE NUDE. Guckert resigned in February.

Democratic Reps. Louise Slaughter of New York and John Conyers of Michigan filed a freedom of information request and were given Secret Service records of Guckert's visits to the White House BECAUSE IT'S TIME TO START FIRING PEOPLE OVER WHAT IS AN INEXCUSABLE SECURITY BREACH AT BEST AND POSSIBLE CLANDESTINE ACTIVITIES WITH TOP BUSH WHITE HOUSE PERSONNEL AT WORST.

You're welcome.

letters@washpost.com

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/04/25/AR2005042501254.html

Re your recent report on the ‘Jeff Gannon” White House entry log data. The online domain addresses he was linked with were more than “suggestive” of gay pornography; they were actual pictures of “Jeff” himself advertising his sexual services. And that makes some of the entry log data disturbing indeed. These logs show that a prostitute had access to the White House on 38 occasions when no press events occurred. This is a person who somehow came to know about Valerie Plame and the start of the Iraq invasion well before anyone else knew.

And not only that, Jimmy-Jeff Gannon-Guckert has turned the White House into a veritable Roach Motel. On 13 occasions (one time on a Sunday afternoon) he checked in with security, but never checked out.

His absences are equally interesting. He attended no press events in the months of August 2003 and October 2004. By sheerest coincidence, Bush and Rove were in Texas for all of August 2003 and on the campaign trail all of October 2004.

If his last name were Lewinsky, would you be telling me all of this instead of making me dig it up myself? Come to think of it, why am I reading your pop-up ads and also doing your work for you? There was a time long ago when Woodward and Bernstein would have done the work and told me more of the story.

49. Consider the "security" at Bush town hall meeting
To think that this guy is just wandering around the WH, never had a detailed background check...(OK, I know he isn't just wandering around - he's got to be in some kind of strategy meeting, working with Scotty on the question he's going to ask him later)

And then there's the infamous Bush Social Security Townhall meetings. The secret service can note who has what bumper stickers on their cars, and track them into the event to throw them out...

Hypocracy anyone?

I doubt this story will have legs. Not for lack of merit. We will all know the details, but the MSM is still GW's bitch, so Gannongate will only remain at the fringes of American consciousness.

63. So this is sort of off subject, but not...
Last week a local news station (KWWL) here in Iowa did a story on Gannon, called "Has Johnny Gosch Been Found?" In 1982 a paper boy named Johnny Gosch was kidnapped in Iowa, and according to witness's, it looked like it was "professionally" done. There is a lot to the story, but short version is some people are thinking that the kidnapped boy is Jeff Gannon and there are theories that he is the product of government training who uses sex to blackmail government officials. Others say that he became Jeff Gannon to expose the criminals that kidnapped him. Obviously others say that it isn't him. Anyhoo, I thought it was interesting, so I thought I'd mention it because there is finally a thread about him.....did anyone else hear about any of this? The story can be found at <http://www.kwwl.com/Global/story.asp?S=3226392>

79. Hmmmm....
We know he was welcomed into the WH with open arms...
I can see how from all appearances he seems like a plant by the WH...
I can see how his gender preferences might be used by the WH for blackmail...
We know that he had extraodinary physical access to the WH, leaving through other exit points to apparently escape detection. We know that sometimes the exit times were missing.
It appears that there were some inproprieties were going on and if I were a Bible carrying Christian, I would be asking alot of questions.
