Bush Adds DeLay to Social Security Tour (LOL!!)

By JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writer

CRAWFORD, Texas - President Bush is adding a helper to his Social Security road tour: House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who is facing allegations of ethical improprieties but is seen by the White House as crucial to pushing Bush's plans through Congress.

In Galveston, Texas, on Tuesday, Bush was discussing his proposal to add private investment accounts to Social Security. DeLay was scheduled to attend the event with the president and, along with a few other Republican members of Congress from Texas, fly back to Washington with him on Air Force One.

Polls show a decline in public support for Bush's plan to divert Social Security taxes into private investments. A Washington Post-ABC News poll out Tuesday found that only 45 percent of those surveyed favored the idea, compared with 56 percent who had supported it in a March poll.

Bush's approval rating has also fallen, according to the poll, with half of those surveyed disapproving of the job he is doing as president.

DeLay is facing questions about the source of funding for some of his foreign trips, political fundraising for Texas elections and his ties to a lobbyist under federal criminal investigation. He has repeatedly denied wrongdoing.

30. Bush truly is an idiot
I cringed as I tuned my radio into one of the right wing talk stations here in Atlanta. To my pleasant surprise, the host (was it Hugh Hewitt or something) was criticizing the GOP and Bush about Delay. Of course, he was doing it in such a way where he bashed Dems. But still, I think this is a good development. Put the GOP fuckers on the defensive.

Then I listened to Hannity for a few minutes. OMFG - what a simplistic, moronic hack. His audience must be made up of the "Bush at any cost" crowd -- the same folks who listen to Rush all day to tell them what to think, and then listen to Hannity. I couldn't understand why people would listen to him. It wasn't entertaining at all. Sometimes right wing talk show hosts can have a bit of entertainment value, but not Hannity. Ehw.

I say let the Bushistas live in their bubble. It will be all the more surprising to them when the Dem steamroller comes through in 06 and 08.

50. Tom Delay gets a Ride on Air Force One
April 26, 2005

Tom Delay gets a Ride on Air Force One

Under the auspices of the president's social security plan, Fox took the opportunity to photo op Tom Delay on Studio B with Shepard Smith today.

In a story reported by Mike Emanuel, who was in Galveston, Texas for the last leg of the President's 60 day 'sell' on his social security plan, Emanuel pointed out that some people in Galveston have an option plan on their social security. He stated that they could have some of their money put into private accounts and that is why the president was finishing up his tour there.

Although Emanuel reported that 2/3 of American people do not support the president's plan, he said the president chose to look at a poll that said that 60% of Americans think that Congress is moving too slow regarding social security.

But the real bonus was when Fox showed Tom Delay standing up in the audience to rip roaring applause. Emanuel said that the president's aides said that the president "appreciates Delay's leadership in the House and supports him as strongly as ever." Emanuel then stated that Delay was in Galveston and the president was going to give him a ride back to Washington on Air Force One.
