Rep. Benjamin Cardin Announces Senate Run
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=703&e=4&u=/ap/20050426/ap_on_re_us/senate_cardin

After 18 years in Congress, Rep. Benjamin Cardin (news, bio, voting record) on Tuesday announced his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat long held by retiring Sen. Paul Sarbanes (news, bio, voting record).

"Together with Barbara Mikulski, I intend to carry on the work of Paul Sarbanes," Cardin said in a statement, referring to Maryland's other U.S. senator. "Working together, we've made the Bay cleaner, we've made the streets safer, and we've increased economic opportunities."

Cardin, a 61-year-old Democrat, has represented Maryland's 3rd Congressional District, which includes parts of Baltimore, since 1987. Among his accomplishments, he cites his 2001 legislation to increase the amount Americans can put into their 401(k) plans and IRAs.

Already in the Democratic race are Kweisi Mfume, the former NAACP president who also served as a Maryland congressman, and A. Robert Kaufman, a civic activist who has made several unsuccessful runs for office. Rep. Chris Van Hollen (news, bio, voting record), who represents a district covering the Washington suburbs, has been exploring a run.

1. I'd like to see Mfume & Sanders in the Senate
Can you imagine the shock at the likes of Imhoff having to deal with real opposition like Mfume and Sanders( Vt.)..They would stress out... Sanders said he's not so sure he would want to be in the Senate...All that respect crap with idiots like the Repug senators from Georgia and Oklahoma...Sanders would have a hard time dealing with such morons. In the House, you can call a spade a spade.

3. Idea for a new thread.
Which state has the most sickening Repug. US Senators...A toss up..I would pick Georgia. Oklahoma second...Recall the new senator from Oklahoma committed a forced sterilization without the patients consent...Why has he not lost his doctors license and sued..
