CNN: Shock Win For Labour Iraq Rebel
Friday, May 6

LONDON, England -- A fiercely anti-war lawmaker expelled from Prime Minister Tony Blair's Labour party won re-election to parliament as an independent, saying in an angry acceptance speech, "Mr. Blair, this is for Iraq."

George Galloway, a radical ousted from the Labour party for attacking Blair over the Iraq war, snatched victory Friday in a Labour stronghold seat where Muslims make up half the population.

"All the people you killed, all the lies you told, have come back to haunt you," Galloway said in a message to prime minister Blair.

"The best thing the Labour party could do is sack you tomorrow morning," he said to cheers from the audience.

2. As usual
a good result for the grandstaning Gorgeous George Galloway but a poor result for the people of that constuency who will now effectively have no MP as George will be off doing his "statesman" thing in Tripoli and Pyongyang most of the time. Wanker.

13. Ha
I am still reeling from the depth of anti-Labour/Blair sentiment on this board.

To judge seven years of government that has featured things that even His Saintliness Bill Clinton was too scared to do - national health for example - simply through the lens of Iraq is pure simple-mindedness.

4. Respect to George;
"Oona King is an able person who will be back in politics and in parliament," Galloway said. "The defeat was not her defeat this evening. It was a defeat for Tony Blair and New Labour and all of the betrayals."

6. Yo! What great news
We'll have that voice hectoring Poodle for the next few years. This was a disaster for Blair, no matter how he tries to paint it. Brit voters got it just right; a slap in the head to Poodle, but not at the expense of losing control to the even-worse conservatives.

Gorgeous George won't be there - he will be too busy on his book tour or sucking up to the North Koreans.
