McCain wants Kerry to stop looking ahead
Oh SHUT UP McCain :eyes:

http://news.bostonherald.com/politics/view.bg?articleid=81928

Straight-talking Sen. John McCain wants his friend Sen. John Kerry to ice his ``obvious'' desire to run for president again and focus on his day job. ``It's pretty obvious, the way he's acting, he'd like to try it again,'' the Arizona Republican said of a 2008 Kerry bid.

``I'd advise him to be the best senator he could be and put those ambitions aside for a while.'' McCain said he ``absolutely'' wants to be president himself but will focus on the Senate and ``wait a couple years'' to decide on a 2008 run.

Assessing Kerry's odds in the June issue of Men's Journal, McCain said, ``I think it would be difficult for John, for the same reason it's hard for all candidates who don't succeed.''

He said he spurned Kerry's overtures last year to become his running mate. While the position ``was never officially offered,'' McCain said they discussed it during ``three chats'' despite his being ``not interested from the beginning.'' Asked why Kerry continued to pursue him, McCain said, ``You'll have to ask him that.'' McCain, who campaigned for President Bush last year, praised GOP efforts but added, ``I also don't think Kerry ran a very good race . . . At the Democratic convention, I can't tell you anything they did besides say, `Reporting for duty.' ''

42. here's my favorite part...
"I think it would be difficult for John, for the same reason it's hard for all candidates who don't succeed."

Wasn't McCain himself a candidate who didn't succeed in 2000? It's amazing how quickly they can rewrite their own histories, while using the same history against someone else.

A whore of the highest magnitude...disgusting.

Edited on Fri May-06-05 08:44 AM by Bouncy Ball
Why am I even slightly surprised to see him lying?

First of all, if McCain IS looking at a run in 2008, he is NOT waiting on the sidelines for a couple of years. I can guarantee you he is doing a LOT of preparation for that.

Secondly, this whole thing reads like a catty girl fight. McCain sounds supremely jealous of Kerry.

And third, this whole Kerry asking him to be his running mate stuff is a bunch of crap. McCain sounds like he has a MAJOR case of sour grapes!

Hey McCain, kiss all our asses, ok? Go get over yourself.

45. Only two reasons I can think of
1) He (alone) was willing to harshly criticize the religious right's influence in the Republican party during his 2000 primary run; and

2) He made a decent show of being outraged at the way GA Sen. Max Cleland was treated by the reThug machine in 2002.

That's about it. When he, a POW who was tortured, said nothing to stop Alberto Gonzolez's appointment, what little respect I ever had for McCain trickled to next to nothing.

Bush's blessings when McCain runs again.

I'd rather have Kerry following up on his campaign wishes for the working class and the poor in this country as much as he can from the Senate for the next four years, and NOT act like McCain who kisses Bushass for four years and can't seem to find his soul anymore.

News flash for McCain: You will not find your soul up George Bush's ass, so I advise you crawl out of there. You REALLY SMELL.

GodDAMN. Now, we really ARE in an alternate reality. And a pile of my respect for McCain is gone. Gonna miss that.

33. f*** McCain
like he's not even worse. Like Kerry's courtship of him was even comparable to his embrace of the very people who personally attacked him and his family and resorted to race baiting to defeat him.

I'm so sick of these ambitious cocksucker politicians. I'd love to see a truly reluctant person of integrity be drafted by the people to lead us out of this shithole of a farce that calls itself politics. What's Jimmy Carter doing these days? I'm sure we'll get some phony trying to play that part in 2008.

Edited on Fri May-06-05 10:35 AM by JI7
whether Kerry runs for President is something the Democratic Party will decide.

but McCain has made clear he does not like KErry and that KErry is not his friend.and he agreed with the swift boat vet attacks on Kerry. so it's clear he is just being an asshole here. he is no friend of Kerry's . in fact he hates Kerry.

and Kerry is focusing on the Senate. if he would remove his head from Bush's ass he might see it.

36. McCain, because you let Bush ream your arsehole in '00...
You're in no position to offer any advice on running a campaign, fuckwad.
That's the line he's taking despite reality: a shitstorm of lies--not distortions--was what Kerry didn't deal well with and neither did McCain in 2000, so there he sits offering a critique like the goddamn hypocrite he is.

44. You may hate McCain, but he's right on this one.
The majority of people on all sisdes think it's CRAZY to be talking about an election that's 3 1/2 years away! Sure, there are those of us who are so discouraged by the results of 2004, the only bright spot for us is to look forward to when we can change things, but we really are in the minority.

I would think the best thing any potential candidate could do now is to enhance his/her accomplishments now to be able to brag about the good things they were responsible for when it is finally campaign time.

50. Kerry is not speaking about it
All he will ever say about 2008 is, "It is way too early to think about it. I'm focused on the 2006 elections."

Meanwhile, he is a whirling dervish in the Senate these days, doing the work of the people.

57. Right KERRY is not talking about 2008
McCain is - disparaging both Kerry running in 2008, and implicitly the work he is doing in the Senate now. As you say, Kerry is a whirling dervish in the Senate now. (So, if this were honestly good ole friendly advise all McCain would have to do is look around on the floor of the Senate - Kerry's real tall and would be easy to find.)

Edited on Sat May-07-05 11:00 AM by wishlist
Sounds to me like McCain is jealous over Kerry's maintaining a positive high profile pushing various programs since the election. McCain has put himself in an unenviable position of being despised by the RW for straddling the fence and not toeing the RW line and being despised by moderates for his RW pandering and sucking up to Bush during the election.

not want him to establish some kind of government in exile where people are listening and responding to him. Kerry must be making some inroads or they wouldn't trot McCain out to take a jab at him.

51. Done:
Senator McCain,

It is really unseemly of you to keep jabbing at Senator Kerry for offering you the Veep spot. Senator Kerry wanted a "Unity" ticket so that he could bring the nation back to sanity after the horrendous divisiveness of your leader(s) -- to take something that was done in such selfless nobility and pervert it into your usual politics-as-war-by-any-means is grotesque.

Stop it right away. You are not half the human being Senator Kerry is (as exemplified by just this one incident), so stop baying at the moon and forfeit what little respect the non-Republican majority of this country has for you.

Sincerely,

60. Maybe Kerry is motivated by a future run
but I don't care. He isn't talking about it. He is doing what a good Senator should be doing...speaking out, taking action, following through on things he campaigned on.

He was a good Senator before...but more behind the scenes and you had to work to find out what he was doing as Senator, what he really said about things they used against him. (I agree it was not the best campaign, there was so much more he could have said and said better) He is more public in his actions now. But this is a time we need people speaking out. Would he be a better senator remaining quiet?

I liked McCain in 2000, now he is repulsive to me. Why did he let bush use him, knowing what bush was? He should shut up.

McCain says he 'absolutely' wants to lead country

Billy House
Republic Washington Bureau
May. 7, 2005 12:00 AM

WASHINGTON - Sen. John McCain says that he "absolutely" wants to be president and that he is qualified for the job but that he is focused on his Senate duties and will "wait a couple of years" to decide about a White House bid in 2008.

"I have the luxury of being able to wait because I don't have to lay any of the groundwork. I don't have to go meet all of the state party chairmen - I've done that before," McCain says in the June issue of Men's Journal magazine, due Tuesday on newsstands.

The Arizona Republican also discusses his battle with melanoma, a potentially fatal form of skin cancer, and describes his health as fine.

"I just came from my dermatologist yesterday with a clean bill of health. I get examined every three months, because once you've had a melanoma, the likelihood of another one is greatly increased," McCain said. "Most normal Americans have to go once a year; I go every three months. And once in awhile, they find something somewhere on my body, and they cut it off."
