Bin Laden henchman ‘seriously wounded’ (al-Zarqawi)

IRAQ’S most wanted terrorist, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, has been seriously wounded, according to a doctor who claims to have treated him last week.
The doctor told an Iraqi reporter in the western city of Ramadi that Zarqawi was bleeding heavily when he was brought into hospital on Wednesday. After treating his wounds the doctor tried to persuade him to remain, but the Jordanian-born terrorist’s minders drove him away.

The claim was supported yesterday by a senior commander in the Iraqi resistance who had been to Ramadi to investigate the report. The doctor, who refused to specify the nature of the wounds and asked not to be identified, was detained by the Americans on Friday for questioning, residents said.

Zarqawi, described as Osama Bin Laden’s “emir” in Iraq, is the Americans’ top target. He has been blamed for countless suicide bombings and for the execution of western hostages, including Ken Bigley, the Liverpool engineer. There is a £13m bounty on his head.

Last week US forces launched an offensive near al-Qaim, more than 100 miles northwest of the city, and claimed to have killed scores of insurgents......

a couple of times already, and lost a leg at least once.

Yet he keeps showing up to wreak havoc.

Regained the leg too apparently.

11. I remember reading an article about him in The New Yorker...
This guy has survived a lot of beatings... He apparently was in an Egyptian prison for quite awhile, and torture was a SOP. He's 'hardened' and until he's in custody somewhere, I won't believe he's actually out of commission.

I'm sure glad our Prez and Rummy are on the job! Freedom is on the march! They're following protocols! Can you feel how much safer we are now?!

15. Is there really anyone paying attention to this nonsense anymore?
At least produce the body of some hapless Iraqi who fits the general description if you really want anyone to go thru the motions of believing what you say.

Some truly half assed propaganda here, like they have taken on a trainee and are showing him the ropes.

Gives this news report all the legitimacy of a National Enquirer story.

20. Good news!!!
...After his most recent wounding I calculate we are fighting no more than 18.43% of the original Zarquawi...the rest has been blown away. (though I noticed suicide bombings have not dropped by 81.57%, I know the media would never lie to me.)

to this guy. He seems to be an urban legend. I wish there was some way to surface this topic in the corporate media, because I think that it would crystallize a lot of unspoken suspicion in the collective unconscious.

25. For those who follow Russian media ...
... the similarity of the propaganda model as it is employed in Chechnya and Iraq is uncanny. The ingredients are virtually identical - an ill-defined, foreign-backed insurgency out of step with local wishes, a mysterious, elusive, badly wounded and yet fearsome leader, regular military operations claiming hundreds of insurgent deaths and a few friendly casualties serving no particular purpose. If the Russian example is any indication, we're in Iraq for a good long ten years of low-intensity warfare at least.

Propagandists must all use the same training manuals.

26. At Least Zarqawi is leading from the front
If he was wounded that probably means he was near the fighting, leading his troops, which is more then can be said for Bush and his
brave Generals. Who are fighting from the Pentagon, the Green Zone,
CENTCOM HQ, or in the middle of a personal bodyguard of a company
of infantry.

29. Whenever another one of these silly Zarqawi stories appear...
People should post a link to this article:

How US Fuelled Myth of Zarqawi the Mastermind

by Adrian Blomfield
The Daily Telegraph
October 4, 2004
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2004/10/04/wirq04.xml

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the terrorist leader believed to be responsible for the abduction of Kenneth Bigley, is 'more myth than man', according to American military intelligence agents in Iraq.

Several sources said the importance of Zarqawi, blamed for many of the most spectacular acts of violence in Iraq, has been exaggerated by flawed intelligence and the Bush administration's desire to find "a villain" for the post-invasion mayhem.

US military intelligence agents in Iraq have revealed a series of botched and often tawdry dealings with unreliable sources who, in the words of one source, "told us what we wanted to hear".

"We were basically paying up to $10,000 a time to opportunists, criminals and chancers who passed off fiction and supposition about Zarqawi as cast-iron fact, making him out as the linchpin of just about every attack in Iraq," the agent said. "Back home this stuff was gratefully received and formed the basis of policy decisions. We needed a villain, someone identifiable for the public to latch on to, and we got one."

---

It tells you everything you need to know about the lies surrounding him.

30. One Less Author Of Misery A Good Thing
If another author of Iraq's continuing misery is being removed from that country, fine. I don't intend to cry many tears for al Zarqawi. He's a murdering hypocrite hiding behind the mask of religion. If he isn't likely to face temporal justice, I hope that he gets the bad karma I think he richly deserves.

As for those authors of Iraq's misery here in the US, I wish my fellow citizens would take back their country and hold those villains to account.
