Briton named in New York blast mystery
Nick Fielding
THE two devices that exploded outside a building housing the British consulate in New York on the day of the general election were originally bought by a British photographer from Huddersfield, Yorkshire, according to a New York City Police Department (NYPD) report obtained by The Sunday Times.
The blasts prompted a security alert, with New York police and firefighters shutting down blocks near the building and closing a nearby subway station.
Afterwards there was speculation that the attack was carried out by Islamic terrorists in an attempt to influence the election in Britain. Nobody was injured.
Police later revealed that the devices were “inert” grenades that had been filled with an explosive powder. One was in the shape of a pineapple and the other was baseball-shaped.
