Dean: Rumsfeld must go (Wolfowitz as well)
Dean: Rumsfeld must go

By John Nichols
October 4, 2003

Charging that Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is guilty of "gross incompetence" and a "pattern of deception" in regard to the Iraq war, Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean says he should resign.

"Secretary Rumsfeld clearly misled the American people about the reasons for going to war in Iraq," Dean told The Capital Times on Friday, the day after chief U.S. weapons inspector David Kay reported that no weapons of mass destruction had yet been found in Iraq.

Recalling pre-war statements by Rumsfeld - including the secretary's increasingly discredited claims about weapons of mass destruction and his boast that he had "bulletproof" evidence of ties between Iraq and al-Qaida - Dean added that "he misled the Congress and perhaps even the president about the need to go to war and the costs of this war. His credibility is gone. He should be gone as well."

snip.......

"There is no need to wait until the next election to hold the major architects of this disaster responsible for their gross incompetence. The time has come for the president to fire them," Dean said. "To get Iraq on track, it is vitally important that the Pentagon begins the task of restoring credibility not only in the world community, but here at home as well. That is not possible under the continued leadership of Secretary Rumsfeld and Deputy Secretary Wolfowitz. They must go."

2. This Seems Like Such an Obvious Comment
that it's hardly worthy of notice at this point.

But I think Dean is ahead of the curve once again. Instead of issuing a general diatribe against the war, he suggests a specific, reasonable action. If Rumsfeld goes before next election, Dean looks like a leader. If not, he highlights the fact that Bush is sticking to the people and philosophy that led him into Iraq.

4. I love it!
I remember watching Rummy get his rocks off during the whole shock and awe champaign. What a bastard, there are not to many people who get turned on by bombing the shit out of another country. Hopefully that sleaze is on his way out. He can take his assistant with him.

5. Kudos, once again for Howard Dean!!
I'm so glad he is saying the things he is, and Kucinich is DOING the things in the House he is.

The Dem presidential candidates....ALL 10 OF THEM.... are saying things that need to be said. Too bad they aren't getting more coverage than Arnold the Grope. <apologies to Alexander the Great>
