UK terror threat level is lowered

The UK terrorism threat level has been lowered and is now being classed as "substantial", say government sources.

The threat had previously been classed as "severe general".

Government refuses to speak publicly about such issues but Conservative homeland security spokesman Patrick Mercer said people should be told.

He asked: "Why haven't we got a single minister for homeland security that can say look, people, actually things are a lot better."

I suppose now that Blair was re-elected they don't need to keep everyone scared any more? Just like what happened here after W got re-selected.

1. In defense of my country...

Blair was not elected because he scared people. 70% of the population disagree with the Iraq War (more than in France) and he has very low approval ratings. He was elected solely because people thought the only alternative was the Conservatives - and they would be far worse. Britain does not back Blair or the Iraq War.

3. Maybe the treat level was kept high

for US consumption? It would have seemed odd if the treat level was elevated here but not in Britian. Now that both elections are over everyone can get back to normal.
