U.S. Plan to Cut Trees Near Stream Opposed (Daniel Boone Forest)
By ROGER ALFORD
Associated Press Writer

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Environmentalists are opposing a move by the U.S. Forest Service to cut trees and burn ground clutter near a pristine trout stream in the southernmost portion of the Daniel Boone National Forest.

The latest battle between environmentalist and foresters on how to best manage the federal land is taking place on the hillsides around Rock Creek, which originates in Tennessee and flows into Kentucky south of Stearns.

The Forest Service wants to cut trees on 1,619 acres, build 8.6 miles of roads, burn ground clutter on 7,560 acres and spread herbicide on more than 1,000 acres.>>>snip

3. Environmentalists vs 'foresters'
In another use of linguistic gymnastics, loggers - you know guys that turn forests into logs before they become paper, paneling, etc - are now 'foresters'? Sounds kinda friendly, don't it -- foresters -- like they give a crap about the forest as more than a source of pulpwood for ... :grr:
