ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- An Albuquerque police officer who is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl might lose his job.

The Albuquerque Journal reported Friday that Police Chief Ray Schultz said he plans to fire Timothy Chavez as soon as he is indicted.

Chavez appeared in court Thursday, where he pleaded not guilty to the rape charge.

According to a criminal complaint, DNA evidence found on the girl matched that of Chavez.

3. Easy there, killer
He stands ACCUSED, not CONVICTED or rape.
Let's wait till he either pleads guilty, or is found guilty by a jury of his peers.

Detective Appears In Court On Rape Charges

<snip>Cameras were banned from the courtroom, When Timothy Chavez exited, a group of reporters swarmed him; he lowered his head and said nothing. He was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for criminal sexual penetration of a minor, Albuquerque police Chief Ray Schultz said.

The girl told police she met Chavez through Live Links on April 22, he came over the same day and he raped her, according to a criminal complaint.

<snip>The girl called police and reported the incident the same day it occurred and an investigation was launched. But it wasn't until last week that she saw the man in a northeast Albuquerque restaurant and called police that the man was identified as Chavez.

DNA samples from Chavez and the samples taken from the girl at the hospital were sent to a laboratory. Phone records obtained from the dating service also showed Chavez's phone number was connected to the girl's home on the day of the alleged incident, according to the criminal complaint.

:eyes:

Oh my. Indeed. Yes. Let's certainly not subject him to the heinous punishment of losing his job until after he's actually tried and convicted of raping a child. But again, that's sorta what the word "might" covers, doesn't it?? Hmmm?

I guess you think that's a pretty harsh punishment, huh?

Read much?
