House To Vote On Syrian Policy Bill
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Big News Network.com Thursday 9th October, 2003

A bill presenting Syria with some tough-talking anti-terrorism demands was scheduled for a vote Wednesday in Congress, USA Today reported.

Rep. Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., the chief author of the Syria Accountability Act, says the measure has support from a majority in both the House and the Senate, and the White House has given it its backing as well.

The vote comes just days after Israel attacked an alleged terrorist training camp, inside Syrian territory.

The new legislation demands Syria end support for terrorism, pull troops out of Lebanon, and stop producing chemical and biological weapons and long-range missiles.

Here we go people Invasion of Syria coming soon :bounce: WWIII!!!

4. It is sad--very sad
I am about to divorce my country because there is little here to be proud of anymore. Democrats have been pummeled by an ignorant, crass, ignoble dufus with a family name, power and money--he rules--over them as well, apparently and he has done this by using threats and intimidation, as bespeaks any coward of a man--and it is no one's fault but their own. More interested in their jobs than saving the country, imho. They have let Bush get away with fascism, if not have enabled him to implement fascismwith nary a protest to be heard. And still, as I type this, and as the lout and the Repuke Arnie takes over California to prime it for a Bush win in 2004, there are few willing to take a risk here in a manner that would crush Bush like the cockroach he is. Nope--not there--sorry and it is sad. Very sad that this once great country has turned into a corporate, military industrial, fascist state that could care less about it's citizens  I read nothing in the news but killing, bombing, terrorists, anxiety and threats. There is nothing noble here--just plain barbarism.

7. House IR committee passed it
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 04:44 PM by Robb
...And the NY Times considers it a foregone conclusion that the House will pass it next week.

Ye gads...

(Edited to add)

Also appears that Israel is cutting short military leaves, cancelling training courses, and considering calling up reserve troops.

Sound familiar? Ye gads again....

10. Israel needs to Occupy Syria
In order to have friendly airspace in order to attack Iran. Bush probably committed to Jordan that their airspace would not be used for such an attack. Bush will probably not attack Iran directly but will provide support to invading Israeli forces.

11. This is a much needed distraction for 2 regimes
Edited on Wed Oct-08-03 09:39 PM by teryang
...whose national security policies are a complete failure. It would be more of a mistake to attack/invade Syria than to attack Iraq or Iran. War with Syria would be the end of the both Sharon and Bush. Both militaries are operating on on ocean of debt.

The citizens of America and the Army active and reserve are tired of war. This is a desparate plan by desparate people who are commonly referred to as extremists or worse by large numbers of their own compatriots. Worldwide they are held in contempt except by those who are paid billions to say otherwise.

No wholesale attacks or invasions of Syria will take place. Israel enters Lebanon at its peril. Any taking of Syrian territory will make the American position in Iraq even more perilous. Jordan will let the Israelis overfly their territory if it is demanded and the US agrees, because they have no choice.

I had thought an attack on Bushehr was more likely. Did dim wit cut a deal with Putin to avoid this? Maybe this is why Israel had to settle for an airstrike on Syria. There are probably hundreds of Russian personnel at the Bushehr site. This is what Putin was subly warning about. Israel had to attack someone because its security policies are a miserable failure.
