Washington Steps Up Transit Security
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Filed at 7:00 a.m. ET

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The nation's capital sent bomb-sniffing dogs and armed police officers to patrol subways and buses Thursday after a series of explosions on London transit systems.

Candace Smith, spokeswoman for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, said security was stepped up ''immediately'' in response to the rush-hour explosions in London.

Smith said police armed with machine guns were patrolling the city's trains and buses looking for anything suspicious. They were accompanied by bomb-sniffing dogs. Passengers were being urged to report any suspicious activity.

About 1.2 million people a day ride Washington's buses and trains.

4. well, that would explain the increased presence of cops
on the yellow line this morning. I will never get used to seeing civilian cops with assault rifles. too 80's central american Banana republic for me.

10. Not to worry. 'Murkans are safe as kittens.
You think Lancelot Link is going to be known as "the dumbass who had not one but TWO major terrorist attacks happen on his watch"? Not on your life. The "President of Character", the "War Preznit" isn't going to have that "weak on terrorism" albatross hanging around his neck.

He's in deep enough liquid manure as it is: two corrupted elections, numerous unanswered questions and dubious circumstances involving 9/11, lowest approval numbers of all time, treasonous outing of a CIA covert during wartime, crappy economy and recession recovery for main street . . . oh, did I mention TWO COSTLY AND FAILED WARS???
