Public Broadcasting Chief Denies Meddling
WASHINGTON - The head of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting defended his leadership Monday, telling Congress he's seeking political balance in public-affairs programming and is not bent on silencing liberal voices.

Kenneth Y. Tomlinson, a Republican, has come under fire in recent months for complaining about "Now with Bill Moyers" — saying the television show's "left-wing bias" was unhealthy and jeopardized support for public broadcasting. Moyers has since left the show.

Tomlinson's hiring of GOP lobbyists and a consultant to track the political leaning of guests on Moyers' show also has raised the ire of Democratic lawmakers and public-interest groups, and it is the subject of an investigation by the corporation's inspector general.

In testimony before a Senate subcommittee, Tomlinson dismissed charges that he is angling to turn public TV into a political pawn of the Republican Party.

1. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, and Rove denied being a source in Plamegate...
Like America will believe anything out of this administration's mouth again.

3. Whatever. I've been put off both PBS AND NPR.
Bunch of bloody megacorporate propaganda, if you ask me.

Enjoying life with DVDs and CDs of my choice, along with locally-owned radio stations that play GOOD music.

4. Both took a hard right in early 2003
evidenced by the firing of Bob Edwards. PBS still has some good science shows. But I am sure that will change soon enough. Future programs will probably include the "evolution controversy". Wish we could get CanadianTV and the real BBC. FreeSpeech TV and U Cal TV are both pretty good.

5. NPR is now run by the former head of Voice of America...
and Radio Marti--the major radio propaganda organs of the United States government.

That's about all you need to know about NPR.

8. That's good!
I was calling it Neocon Propaganda Radio. Whatever it is, "public" radio is the farthest thing from it.

10. I can hear the difference on the NPR shows
not my local MPR broadcasts (yet). Today one that stood out on ATC was about "supreme court justices going liberal over time". That talking point is getting more and more increased play.

11. I used to have an "NPR Anger Index"
I set my clock radio to NPR in the morning and would time how long it would take for me to become so enraged that I JUST HAD to turn it off. I started at about 10 minutes, but then I had to quit when the time got to be five minutes. Now I have my clock radio tuned to an oldies station, and I wake up much happier. :)

12. I much prefer the local stories on both ME and ATC
the national stories quite often also get me going.

By that time I am usually at work and tune into MPR's 89.3 The Current eclectic music service.

14. Funny, I used the same technique here in Detroit when Ted
Nugent, "The Nuge", was on the am dial.
Bet I got out of bed sooner than you did!
Got a LOT of work done that year!

or their programming before he was hired. I read this quote the week they INVADED PBS...that he wasnt interested in their programming enough to answer the simplest of questions about his NEW job.
