Gunmen Kill Human Rights Activists in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Armed men stormed a house in Baghdad on Tuesday, killing four Iraqi human rights activists and wounding another, a member of the group said.

The victims belonged to the local International Organization for Human Rights and were shot by several men at their office in the western neighborhood of Jamaa, their colleague Jamal Ibrahim said.

"As soon as we entered the office, we saw four dead bodies," Ibrahim said. "A fifth person was wounded and the neighbors rescued him." He was taken to hospital.

Shortly after the shooting, Iraqi police and U.S. troops rushed to the area and checked the one-story house that served as the group's office.

Ibrahim identified the four as the head of the organization, Ali al-Shamaa, and members Mohammed Adnan, Khalil Ibrahim and Abu Karar. The wounded man was Toufic Shafik, he said.

Jamaa is the same area where Egypt's top diplomat to

Iraq, Ihab al-Sherif, was kidnapped this month by al-Qaida in Iraq. The group said in an Internet posting that it killed al-Sherif several days later.
