Iraqi police say four Americans killed near Basra (mercs)
(Baghdad, Iraq-AP) September 13, 2005 - An Iraqi police captain says four American contract workers have been killed in a roadside bombing south of Basra.

The captain says the Americans and Iraqi security guards were driving in a convoy when the bomb went off.

US officials can't confirm the American deaths and only say that the victims were not diplomats or soldiers.

Meantime, the US military says a militant tied to al-Qaida has been captured in Haditha. Four militants were killed in the attack along the Euphrates River.

Haditha is 140 miles northwest of Baghdad.

And Turkey's Anatolia news agency reports three Turkish engineers held nearly two months in Iraq have been returned home.

2. I wonder if they were working under non-prevailing wages?
Or does that just apply to folks in the U.S. helping Halliburton and Bechtel to fatter profits?

I can't wait for the widows of these guys to start demanding full military funerals with appropriate ruffles and flourishes for their fallen "heroes."

Why anyone would go to Iraq to make money is beyond me.

7. I feel no remorse for these "contractors". Fuck them. Here's why:
Simply, they can't be tried for crimes they commit. There was a big brouhaha about these contractors firing their weapons, sometimes killing people, just to clear the path for their vehicles. Government said, "Hey, happened in Iraq, not USA. Can't prosecute". Essentially, denied it was their jurisdiction.

Ok then. Enjoy the big bucks, boys. Maybe it'll make it easier to set up funds for your buddies' wives and families when they get hacked up and hung from lamp posts.
