Bork Calls Bush Court Pick 'A Disaster'

...

Robert Bork - whose nomination to the high court was rejected by the Senate in 1987 - called the choice of Miers "a disaster on every level."

"It's a little late to develop a constitutional philosophy or begin to work it out when you're on the court already," Bork said Friday on MSNBC's "The Situation with Tucker Carlson." "It's kind of a slap in the face to the conservatives who've been building up a conservative legal movement for the last 20 years."

1. Makes me feel a little better to know
that Bork doesn't like her either.

David Brooks on PBS Newshour on Friday spoke of the same disappointment. Said that Republicans pride themselves on being the party of ideas.

Hmmm. He didn't say dumb ideas so I can't say I disagree with him on that!

15. The Pharisee Pat Robertson Had The Fundies PRIMED For A Fight
he was on the tv daily "praying" for a wingnut lead SCOTUS.

This is what the GOP wanted... this is what they got.

How fitting the chaos is coming around to bite them on the ass.

for praising Miers, and it's telling the Democrats haven't come out blazing against her.

Yeah, the fascists WANTED, BEGGED for a complete Senate meltdown over a nomination, but it's THEY who are melting down.

Pass the popcorn.

41. Yeah, old Borkie, aside from being WAY OUT THERE in his judicial thinking
...was the hands-on COX SACKER of the Nixon regime. The history:

(Attorney General Elliot) Richardson resigned when Mr. Nixon instructed him to fire Cox and Richardson refused. When the President then asked Ruckelshaus to dismiss Cox, he refused, White House spokesman Ronald L. Ziegler said, and he was fired. Ruckelshaus said he resigned.

Finally, the President turned to Solicitor General Robert H. Bork, who by law becomes acting Attorney General when the Attorney General and deputy attorney general are absent, and he carried out the President's order to fire Cox. The letter from the President to Bork also said Ruckelshaus resigned.

These dramatic developments were announced at the White House at 8:25 p.m. after Cox had refused to accept or comply with the terms of an agreement worked out by the President and the Senate Watergate committee under which summarized material from the White House Watergate tapes would be turned over to Cox and the Senate committee.

34. You're absolutely right!
Bush awards loyality above competence. He wants to make sure that
the Court rules to protect him from being tried for crimes etc.

The Fundies are going to have to take a back seat.

I still believe she'll be more conservative than Sandra Day.

In fact, she'll be so conservative just to appease the rightwing.

But her primary purpose is to protect the Kingdom of Bush.

10. I still think all this "uproar" by the right-wing is mere Rovian theatrics
It makes sense to me that this would be nothing more than a way to give so-called "democrats" political cover for their voting to confirm.

In fact, if you want to assume that the milquetoast "democrats" aren't already in on the sham, one could argue that this trick is meant to imply to "democrats" that they can vote to confirm, thinking that the nomination will fail because enough republicans will vote against. But then, at voting time, the big surprise is that all the republicans vote in lockstep with Dear Leader, to assure the nomination is approved -- perhaps unanimously!

Wouldn't he be orchestrating how democrats are so mad and they will never be happy with anything and they are just obstructionists? I think bush missed an opportunity to fire up his base. I'm not sure what exactly is going on here. Is this just cronyism to the point of not even making sense?
