Half of Senate Republicans doubt Miers
http://www.washtimes.com/national/20051010-121707-4311r.htm

Nearly half of Senate Republicans say they remain unconvinced that Harriet Miers is worthy of being confirmed to the Supreme Court, according to a survey conducted by The Washington Times.

As with the nomination of Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., the vast majority of senators say they will not announce their final decisions about the nomination until after Senate Judiciary Committee hearings, which are expected sometime next month.

What's troubling for President Bush, however, is that 27 Republican senators -- almost half of his party's members in the chamber -- have publicly expressed specific doubts about Miss Miers or said they must withhold any support whatsoever for her nomination until after the hearings.

2. Add that to the Democrats who voted against Roberts
and we have ourselves a rejected nominee.

Never mind Miers cloudy ideological leanings. The Bush administration is once again thumbing its nose at our system of checks and balances, and on that basis alone, his 'stealth' nominees deserve to go down. Over and over, until he gets the message: "Stop subverting Congress and the Supreme Court!"

3. Hehe
good strategy. Let not the enemies harp on the lack of experience but lets take up this. Then when we confirm her saying we are certain that the fear was unfounded. HEEHAW CHECKMATE.

4. They'll be marching in step soon enough
Come on, these are the Republicans. The Senators will definitely support her in the end. The only risk they run is that the base will revolt, but I find that pretty unlikely.

10. I think you're right
He has 26 votes locked up. He has a half-dozen Democrats as well -- Let's not forget she was Sen. Reid's choice. So he needs 20-3 votes our of 70 uncommitted. That's not really all that difficult to get.

5. Don't count them eggs, yuo know
or you may get an ommelette and quite the mess...

It is not over until the votes are counted, and I suspect what they say now and what will be are two widely different things....

I know I am in a rather cynical mood tonight

6. Maybe the Republicans would enjoy seeing Bush explode
if his nominee is rejected as much as we would.

7. They're each playing to their constituencies
The Republican Senators who have expressed concerns are playing to their constituencies, which include the very unhappy rightwingers.

In the end, most will vote for Miers.

I don't see Dem senators busting her out. She'll get beat up by Dems for cronyism, but she'll probably get most of their votes. Why?

Because the next nominee will be worse, and will get approved.

11. Senate Republican's want either a Stepford or a judicial Mengele
Is it okay to call them Nazi's in public now? That Edith Clement woman didn't seem all that bad, for a start she hasn't got dead eyes or weird eyes...Myers eyes are SERIOUSLY freaky ala Roberts' eyes.

The 27 Senate Republican's will vote for Myers, after Junior gets his thugs to a)blackmail them or b)threaten their familes with death. Works EVERY time for him.

13. bush*'s endorsements not helping
to build support for Miers.

his support is pretty weak and he's in Quag-MIERs:

1. he knows her heart
2. she's humble
3. best he could find
4. trust me

The more I hear and watch repugs tap-dance and/or stomp their feet the more I think Miers is not long for the nomination. I expect her nomination will be withdrawn - the problem is going to be coming up with a plausible excuse.

Forget political capital - bush* is overdrawn on that account and it's on credit hold.

he can't use DeLay to apply pressue because DeLay's credibility and influence is in the dumpster

Frist is under investigation for stock trading.

Miers public record is not much to go on in terms of being qualified for a SCOTUS position - and her dealings in the White House are under wraps. And basically what the bushies are saying - "she's qualified but we can't tell you why."

What we do know is that bush* has looked into her heart, finds her humble and besides it's the best he could do so trust him....
