Report: McCain considering White House

NEW YORK A report says Senator John McCain is seriously considering a 2008 bid for the White House.

The last time the Arizona Republican took a shot at the presidency was in the 2000 race against George Bush.

In an appearance yesterday at a fund-raiser for a New York candidate, McCain humorously ruled out a vice presidential post, comparing the job to his prisoner-of-war years in Vietnam. McCain rhetorically asked why he would want to be "kept in the dark" and "fed scraps?"

McCain tells the New York Daily News that he'll wait until after next year's election to decide his political future.

1. I would have been more supportive of a McCain run
before he kissed Bush ass for the last few years.

I used to think he had character. I no longer respect him now. He hasn't stood up to BushCo in a way I think is adequate. So I won't be voting for him.

6. It's a pretty safe bet that
if there is an (R) next to their name on the ballot, they lack character.

13. Ditto...
I was inclined to vote for him in 2000, now since he's Junior's bestest bosom buddy I'd sooner stick needles in my eyes than trust John McCain.

34. !!!!!THANK YOU!!!!!
I strongly believe that McCain's support of Bush is based on blackmail dating back to his days as one of the "Keating 5."

Anything semi-decent he has done since, e.g. his alleged pro-environmental record, is whitewash to make people forget HE WAS DEEPLY, INTIMATELY INVOLVED in the MOST COSTLY SCANDAL in U.S. HISTORY.

Sorry to shout, but any Democrat I meet who even entertains the thought of voting for McCain gets the back of my hand.

30. Why EVER consider a vote for McCain?
...he is a REPUBLICAN (Duh!)
Yes - lesser of two evils but still a terrible choice. Let GOPers support him in a losing bid.

39. Many Still Buy The Maverick Bit
I don't. To be honest, I did until last year, when he campaigned for Dubya. This seemed disingenuous because of what Dubya did to him in 2000, and 'cos he was friends with Kerry.

But, because many see him as a moderate (ha!) he does well with independents and Democrats. That could make him tough to beat.

23. Right now he's polling to win 2008 in a landslide, as is Giuliani
Which kind of undermines "both sides hate him" argument.

The huge problem is that folks have focused on Smirk's roll in all this, not the GOP's roll in all this. Because of that, all McCain or Giuliani or any other GOPer has to do is claim to be "a different kind of Republican", "a real compassionate conservative" etc., etc.

If you want to stop the Republicans in 2006 and beyond - - work against the entire GOP, and especially work against McCain and Giuliani.

9. Double duh!
He's been running since 2000. Every time his gets his face on TV and defends another inane Bush move it's been obvious. The trouble is he's sold his soul and dignity. Who's going to trust him?
I hope every one of his despicable butt kissing actions during the past five years comes back to haunt him.

Any OTHER representation of who he is, where he's coming from, and what he has to offer would be an outright lie.

I still believe that there was deal made with the BFEE that Jeb wouldn't challenge him in '08. That bought his loyalty in the '04 election.

14. NOT a moderate....NOT a moderate...NOT a moderate
I wish the MSM would stop painting him as the moderate. He has only recently switched his position (after polling reports) to support stem cell research and admits that LIFE of the mother is the only instance where he supports choice (not health of mother or genetic abnormalities of the fetus...no LIFE of the mother ONLY). And he was and is one of the biggest bullhorns for the Iraq war.

19. Is McCain free from being threatened by Shrubya?
McCain seems to be a good man in many ways, but his obvious
bowing down to Bush worries me greatly.

It is as if he was threatened.

His actions don't fit him, and I don't think McCain will
ever be free to act upon his real values.

If he were president, would he still be bowing to the sources behind
Bush?

We need someone who is not afraid.

31. What a rat! I can never forgive this guy...
He had personal experience with what a manipulative, lying bastard W is, had worked with John Kerry in the Senate numerous times, was offered the VP position on a silver platter, had the opportunity to heal this country and help create a world of sane policy again, and what did he do?

He hugged and kissed George Bush. The man who lumped Kerry in with Osama and Saddam as enemies of the country.

Disgusting.

I'll do whatever I can to make sure there's never a President McCain.

At one time I thought that wouldn't be all that bad, but ever since I saw him get up on the stage and snuggle with Bush I consider him a scumbag. Too bad, it would have been nice to have a Democrat from president in '08.

Ha, maybe the far-right will sabotage his campaign like they did in 2000 *crosses fingers and hopes for a Frist candidacy*
