Rove redux
By VIVECA NOVAK, MIKE ALLEN

As top Bush aide Karl Rove prepares for his fourth grand-jury appearance, the federal probe into who leaked CIA operative Valerie Plame's identity to the media is believed to be wrapping up.

But the investigation has taken a toll on White House aides, many of whom now fear that the special counsel, Patrick Fitzgerald, is intent on issuing indictments.

"Fitzgerald's office, although very professional, has been very aggressive in pursuing people," the adviser said. "These guys are bullies, and they threaten you."

...

Meanwhile, lawyers for possible indictment targets are boning up on the Espionage Act, used to charge Daniel Ellsberg, leaker of the Pentagon papers, say people close to the probe.

37. That's the truth...
They can ask the black grandmother who was accused of looting, when she was simply removing food from the trunk of her car to feed herself and her elderly husband. She spent two weeks in jail, and some judge ordered some insanely high bail, $50,000, I think. Maybe she can give the White House staffers, who are used to calling the shots and tramping on other people's rights, a few tips about what it's like to feel helpless and afraid.

This couldn't happen to a more deserving group of people. I'd love to see Rove, Libbey, Bush, Cheney, Bolton, and a few more serving time.

13. Are they at terror level Red in the White House? Fear
is the great eqaulizer. The White House cabal is accoustomed to making everybody fear everything theiy put out in their Fear informercials. Now Fitgerald is using every single one of their actions to shine a light on the Truth. If these bushbots were doing nothing wrong, then fear would not be the emotion prevalent in the republican White House cesspool.

Go Fitz, they are not quite yet feeling the FEAR enough yet!:bounce:

28. Can you believe....
I actually got a thread locked for "name calling" on another forum when I said "poor babies" in reference to Republicans in a lather over Delay's indictment? It was in the context of reminding people that the GOP still controls all three branches of government while whining that a partisan hack managed to take down Delay.

You should have seen what I'd been called before that without rising to the bait. Far right wingnuts are disintegrating before our eyes.

16. Espionage Act being openly discussed means...
that not only is the administration in deep shit, but the MSM is finally starting to get over their love affair with the IIPA.

This really may be the beginning of the end, folks... The IIPA was a great smoke-screeen, for as long as it lasted, because everyone got to talk about how narrowly it was defined and how hard it would be to prove all the components of it.

18 USC 793/794, however, have very little that actually needs to be shown to prove that they were violated. Everyone repeat after me: "It's about the treason, stupid!" :D

22. It's about treason, stupid and a Merry Fitzmas texpatriot2004

It's beginning to look a lot like Fitzmas
Everywhere you go.
Who's gonna do five-or-ten?
We're thinking once again
Of handcuffs and of orange jumpsuits aglow.
It's beginning to look a lot like Fitzmas
Indictments on every score
But the prettiest sight to see
Is the scowl on Darth Cheney
At the slammer's front door.

A warrant or writ, a subpoena that fits
Is the wish of Barney and Ben;
The thought of Turdblossom hung up like a possum
Is the hope of Janice and Jen;
And Mom and Dad can hardly wait for court to start again.

It's beginning to look a lot like Fitzmas
Everywhere you go.
There's an defendant who doesn't want to tell;
One in the White House as well --
The felony kind that doesn't mind the law!
It's beginning to look a lot like Fitzmas
Soon the bells will start
And the thing that will make them ring
Is the indictment that we sing,
Right within our hearts!

18. They should be glad that a tough law and order guy is on the case.
Edited on Mon Oct-10-05 12:46 PM by Garbo 2004
They're not bullies, just law enforcement doing their job. The old "law & order" party should appreciate that, after all. And if they've done nothing wrong they've nothing to fear. Good thing the country has new law enforcement tools to ferret out those who threaten our national security, right?

After all, GW has always hated leaks of gov't info to the press and publicly said so. Leakers should be found and punished, yes? Aides should be eager to cooperate rather than mischaracterize those true patriots in the DOJ just doing their job.

Remember when the Administration wanted to have an "informer program" where folks could spy on their colleagues and neighbors and turn them in for "suspicious activity?" Sounds like patriotism should begin in the White House and rather than whine, they should be jumping to cooperate with the investigation to ferret out those responsible for damaging our national security.

:sarcasm:

Ha, it's rich. These guys think a criminal enterprise is the guy who helps himself to a beer from a quik mart and a national security threat is someone with an anti-Administration T shirt who prolly reads, you know, books. They don't think they are crooks, a "cancer on the Presidency," and a threat to national security. But, yeah they are.

Big news!

"Meanwhile, lawyers for possible indictment targets are boning up on the Espionage Act, used to charge Daniel Ellsberg, leaker of the Pentagon papers, say people close to the probe.

Fitzgerald would face fewer hurdles proving a case under the statute, which bars transmitting "information relating to the national defense" to anyone not entitled to receive it, than under the more exacting Intelligence Identities Protection Act."

They'd have a tough defense if they used the same one as the Pentagon papers.

He was charged but did it go to court for trial? I don't recall him being convicted.

Interesting that I can remember the..... NAME.... of his psychiatrist but not the outcome of these charges. I remember the White House Plumbers (Burglars) broke into the office of Daniel Ellsburg's psychiatrist.... in Arizona, I think. Rarely was his psych ever refereed to by name ..... Dr. Louis Fielding, I think,.... he was always just.... "Daniel Ellsburgs psychiatrist."
