Police Shot Man Listed As Hurricane Victim
NEW ORLEANS (AP) - One of the people included in Hurricane Katrina's death toll in New Orleans was shot by police. Danny Brumfield, 45, was killed by Officer Ronald Mitchell outside the convention center around 2 a.m. on Sept. 3, just before the National Guard arrived to evacuate the increasingly dangerous and chaotic building, police said.

Police said Mitchell and his partner heard what appeared to be a gunshot, and a man jumped onto the hood of their squad car swinging something shiny. Police said he was shot because he appeared to be attacking an officer.

snip...

The women said the officers ran over his body with their car when they left.

1. The alternative account:
"Relatives dispute the police account.

Brumfield's daughter, Shantan Brumfield, and niece, Africa Brumfield, who were both at the convention center, said Brumfield was in front of the building when a commotion broke out. He jumped into the street, they said; his niece said she thought he was trying to stop a police car.

They said an officer hit Brumfield twice with the squad car - a nudge the first time, a harder bump the second. They said the officer shot Brumfield after he leaped onto the hood and, according to his niece, pulled out a pair of shears he was carrying for protection.

The women said the officers ran over his body with their car when they left."

Things like the beating of the old man by the police in video today don't help matters.

2. You mean the "We spent 6 weeks tryin' to keep people alive!!" one?
Where a cop yells that to a reporter.

Um, don't these people understand that when you do that and you don't destroy the camera it gets worse? So why do it at all?

3. Leapt onto the hood?
After they hit him with the car? A pedestrian hit by a vehicle falls onto the hood so I ake this to mean that they hit him, he fell onto the hood so they shot him.

4. Anyone that has been paying attention...
should not be surprised to hear about this...

It's a fact, beatings and killings by racist Cops are almost an everyday thing in America.

What do you think is going to happen when all accountability is gone?

There is no electricity, few witnesses (that will talk), and tons of chaos. A racist dream!

I would be willing to bet many black people were killed in NOLA by racist cops. However, we will only know of a few.
