Council of Europe slams British anti-terrorism plans
The Council of Europe has criticised the British Government's plan to deport people whom it accuses of inciting hatred or terrorism.

Britain is planning to introduce the measure in its own jurisdiction and also wants the 24 other EU member states to adopt similar procedures. <snip>

The body said the British plans would breach the prohibition on torture and inhuman or degrading treatment contained in the European Convention on Human Rights.

The Council of Europe, which represents 46 countries, was set up in 1949 to promote human rights, parliamentary democracy and the rule of law.
