Top GOP senator suggests Bush use Roosevelt-style public presentation

WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Sunday suggested that President Bush use an FDR-style presentation to update people on progress in the war in Iraq.

Sen. John Warner, R-Va., recalled that during World War II, President Franklin D. Roosevelt often went on the radio in "fireside chats" to explain to the nation in detail the conduct of the war in Europe and Asia.

"I think it would be to Bush's advantage," said Warner, who served in the Navy during the war.

"It would bring him closer to the people, dispel some of this concern that understandably our people have, about the loss of life and limb, the enormous cost of this war to the American public," he said.

In fact the only thing that the Chimp ever said that made sense was on the Good Morning America show where he and pickles were sitting on the couch and he said and I quote, "MY WIFE SPEAKS BETTER ENGLISH THEN ME".

It was always the only time the Chimperor told the truth on public TV.

I think though it would be fun to watch; a completely unscripted, off the cuff, update on the progress of the freedom and democracy we are so effectively delivering to the Iraqi people.

30. That's right Sen. Warner. It's all about *how* the message is delivered.
The substance of the message and the president's performance are meaningless, Sen. Warner. All Chimp has to do is click the heals of his magic shoes together three times and go on the radio and explain why it's good for the US to be losing in Iraq, why it's good that the US is in debt to the rest of the world, why it's good that the US taxes the poor to pay the rich, why it's good that the US ignores science, why it's good that the US has a corrupt regime in power, why torture is good, etc. Then, everything will magically be okay. After all, it's not the message but how it's delivered.

Yeah, I didn't think so.

I've said it before: there is nothing more hilarious than watching these Republicans come up with makeover ideas for W. It shows how deeply they are in denial about the fact that no matter how you dress him up, W. is a loser.

He can't "use Roosevelt-style public presentation" because HE'S NOT FDR. I know you wish he was, guys, but he's just NOT. He can't be anything other than what he is: a spoiled brat who has now involved the entire world in the catastrophe that is his failed life.

BUt you go ahead and put those little "fireside chats" into action, guys. Jon Stewart needs material.

My fellow 'muricans,
It has been a hard battle in this step in the war on terrorism,
9-11 changed everything and now patriots fight in Iraq with
Regime change, Saddam's support of Al-Queda and developing nuke-leer weapons.
(Shifts to grab other knee as he tries to focus on the teleprompter.)
The fight for Democracy in Iraq is going well and the insurgency is despurt. Democracy is on the rise in Iraq. Saddam is being given a fair trail. The Iraqi people have just voted again and each vow strengthens the democracy of Iraq. Disolusionment of the insurgents being strategifically disarmed while Iran and Syria try to supply Insurgency continues but we're going to hold the course.

51. I vividly remember FDR's Fireside Chat's
Georgie is no FDR and any attempts by his staff/aides to put him in the role of an FDR will surely place Saturday Night Live, MAD, Jon Steward, David Letterman, and possibly Leno, in the #1 ranked shows with the material they get from Georgie.

Georgie has had 5-years traveling the depth and breadth of our Nation and the World, speaking to world leaders and practising with his hand selected choirs yet, he is still incapable of giving the simplistic of speech's. Georgie has speech writers, speech coaches and has available at taxpayers expense, the best of the best communications instructors that our money and our Nation has to offer. After 5-years,Georgie should be capable of receiving a PHD in Communications but sadly his little man is still incapable of speaking or leading anyone not even Barney.

If his aides are smart they will just keep Georgie aboard AirForce I, talking to his choir.

67. Bush's fireside chat.
I happen to have in my possession a transcript of a fireside chat recorded this past weekend by President Bush from his ranch in Crawford, Texas.

PRESIDENT BUSH: Good evening America. I thought you'd like to hear it from me myself what's going on in the mind of America. Pass me the bourbon, Bath-boy, and I'll be wanting a bump here in a minute. America is doing well. Good honest Americans are saving millions of dollars each on taxes each year, and that tax savings is being passed on to the American economy in the form of offshore investments which are being taxed in other countries, so they're kind of being brought up to our level on the world pie chart scale. That means that soon you'll be able to make money from foreign businesses right in your own community.

Saddam Hussein is on trial for September 11. Shut the fuck up, Bath-boy. Ashcroft fixed all that. I know what I can say and what I can't. I can say anything I want to. I'm the President, and you'd better fuckin' remember that or I'll turn you in for being my dealer. Oh, you don't think I'll say that? Fuck you, you damned pole-smoker. Watch this. Yeah, we did it, so what? What are you gonna do about it, America? You don't even know what the fuck I'm talking about anyway. I could tell you Alan fuckin' Alda did it and you dumb asses would swallow it. You can cut that part out, right?

Political contributions--which reminds me, hey Bath-boy, put some ice in that there mixer and throw in some Jim Beam. You got something else for the boss? Hurry it up, you son of a bitch! Now you got the damn razor blade wet. You're such a fuckin' sap. The slush fund controlled by Jack Abramoff has been temporarily handed over to the Saudi Arabians, but they owe us one and we'll get it back in time for them elections you're so damned worried about, like it matters, right O'Dell? Cheers.

Those damned egg-heads over at the PNAC think it's 'bout time to make that whole Iraq thing go away by invadin' somewheres else. Gotta keep movin' forward, keep that ball movin'. Wooo! That's some prime shit. Ambassador from Columbia, eh? Make sure that guy gets a Christmas card from me. Can you handle that, O'Dell? 'Course not, 'cause it's on paper, right? Hahahaha!

Okay, where was I? Shut the fuck up, Bath-boy. Yeah, invading. I knew that. We got four good choices, and it really don't matter which goes first so long as the ragheads get to kiss that damned asteroid. Fucked up a perfectly good baseball stadium with that thing, if you ask me. I don't see the point in half of them. Hell, I don't even know where Lebanon is. I pay people to know that. Anyway, they'll have a plan soon and we'll go 'head and knock 'em down like bowling pins. It'll look like a goddamn curtain factory done blowed up, so many a those fuckers gonna be flyin' through the air. They won't let me use that MOAB thing yet, but I keep askin'. I always get what I want.

Who let the fucking dog in here? God damn it, he just batted an eight-ball off the damned table here. Now he's sniffing it all up off the floor--look at that, haha! Barney, you son of a bitch, I swear to fucking God you do that shit on purpose. C'mere, you son of a bitch--he really is, you know. But it takes one to know one, right? Yeah, I know, don't piss off Mom. Ima cut that damned tail offa you, make sure you don't do that again.

Okay, well, that's about it, I guess. Just keep lovin' God and hatin' fags and it's all good. I hate that damned saying. You know, whenever someone says, "it's all good," it's usually really all bad. Still, the kids like saying it, so try to work that in there, mkay? All right, now it's time to party. Anyone want to bet on the Longhorns? What? You think I fixed that, too? Haha! Motherfuckers, you know me too well. I should have Gotti's boys put the hit on you! Okay, turn that o--

but only if they give him Polio and let him make the fire ALL by Himself -- we all know how co-ordinated he is :)

"There's some bad people, kinda evil doer folks thet wanna hurt us.. sometimes kill us.. lots of us.. and they knock down whole buildings in a single bound..wait..heh heh.. that's Superman.. I have the latest copy right here tucked away between the pages of this book they gave me to read about some Plague.. it was Blue.. No..uh...terra..Black.. it was a blacklike disease thing..didn't knock down no buildings..uh, but just like now there wasn't nothing we could'a done about it..like them planes, them kamakazies..What? What's at Karl? Don't say nothin' about no Kamakazies cos that would show we knew planes could fly into stuff and blow stuff up? Oh.. what?
And don't talk to you when the microphone is on? Oooooh..

So as I was sayin.. terra..some bad people want to ruin our economy, and right before Christmas too.. I was talking to Jesus the other day in the shitter.. what? What Dick? Don't say shitter? What the hell else IS IT called? I call Karl TurdBlossom all the time and everyone just laughs like hell.. huh? The what is on..? Microphone? Don't say I talk to Jesus? But I thought we wanted them stupid christans to vote for us.. but we don't need them NOW Dick..we ain't runnin' for office.. huh? Well, them other assholes can run their own show, I'm through with that chasin around having to remember speeches alla time.. HuH?

Oh hi Honey, what? Dick made you come over here and shut me up didn't he? I ain't listenin' to him no more, I only got three more years of presidentin' to do and it's hard enough without havin' to drag his fat ass around..

OUCH! Laura, NOT ON THE FACE! I TOLD you I won't go in front of no more cameras with a big ol' shiner and blame it on the dogs and that damned bicycle! You back off before I send you to gitmo, and you KNOW I can DO IT.. OUCH! HEY..okay, okay.. I'll do the radio show thing just like you guys said, that FDR talk thing.. but no more HITTING by either one of you..

Can they hear me rubbing my head while I talk about fear and fearing fear and all that crap? No? Okay.. Laura, you go sit where I can see you, get out from behind me like that.. Dick.. it wouldn't hurt you to smile once in a while.. you're still mad because I was microwaving that corn dog when you came around the corner the other day ain't you?

Didn't them medics start you up right fast? Then what are you bellyaching about? Laura, tell Dick I can't do this with him staring holes in me like that.. he's starting to look like he's already dead, kinda green around the gills..huh?

Sure we can get started.. I thought we already had the radio show recorded.. if you'd all stop fucking around.. are we ready.. okay, here goes..

I'm sitting here my fellow Mericans next to the same fireplace that FDR gave his famous speech from about not fearing the fear thing and ready to let you know what a great leader I am and how well this here war deal is going.. it was this fireplace right Here.. wha? Wha? WHAAAE!! WHOOOOAAAA!! OWWWWW!! GODAMMIT!! I'm ON FIRE! MY SLEEVE, MY SLEEVE -- BURNING!! AHHHHH, AHHHHH!! ahhhh!! ahhh!!" (sound trails off as He leaves the area blazing more and more as he runs from the room with SS agents giving chase..)

"This is Scott McClellan coming to you live from the White House. We want to thank the pResident for his inspiring speech and are glad that he was able to relieve the american public of any doubts they have concerning the glorious war for the Homeland being waged this very moment to protect our corporate.. er, American interests..

The pResident has been called away to answer an urgent call from the Leaders of many countries who want to offer their support as we withdraw 50,000 troops from Iraq and send them to Syria which will be an easy call for the pResident as the troops are physically only Yards away from Syria at the moment.

Any Questions? No? Uh, Helen, go to hell or shut up or we'll have you killed.. any other Questions?

I guess that's the end of the 'pResident Bush's Fireside Chat' for today. Tune in next week as Mr Bush dresses up in a StovePipe hat with a beard where he will mumble, gurgle and twitch from the back of a train decorated with millions of dollars, YOUR tax dollars..

If all goes well, within a few weeks Mr Bush will be donning an Elvis costume and belting out his favorite Elvis song, 'I'm on Drugs.. I'm all Fucked Up, uh huh hoo, yeah yeah..'"

74. Too funny! Imagine Bush having to string sentences together...
... for a half hour to an hour every week. That would be a PR boon for the Democrats, seeing how Bush pathologically lies and contradicts himself at every turn.

Remember him trying to explain tribal sovereignty in the '04 election? Imagine something like that once a week. LOL

80. Would make Shrub less visibly twitchy and jaw grinding. That WOULD help.
Edited on Tue Nov-29-05 12:22 PM by zann725
A radio address would also be easier to pre-tape, editing out Shrub-ism's, slurs and mis-speaks. THAT would help too.

Being compared to FDR merely by use of "Fireside Chats?" I don't think. Particularly in light of Shrub's DEEP contempt for all F.D.R. stood for. When a man who couldn't stand..."stands" HIGH above one who does...we've come a long way DOWN as a nation indeed.
