1. I wonder how much Haliburton charged the insurgents for the rocket?
Because how the fuck else are they getting them?

2. My, you've brought up an interesting question!
With so many rocket/mortar attacks, we've heard nothing about any evidence concerning where these shells are coming from. I'm sure the military can identify the source -- why don't we hear anything about it???

5. We never secured...
...the ammo depots on our way to Bagdhad in 2003. I've seen reports of Guard units going to weapon bunkers in 2004 to destroy mortars, rockets, etc. We didn't have enough troops in the intial wave to leave anyone behind to secure the iraqi weapons they found along the way.

13. Not to mention the fact that there's always been a booming arms trade
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 02:45 AM by TheWraith
In the Middle East, no pun intended. Everybody has an enemy they want to keep at bay, and surplus Russian Army munitions are everybody's favorite. There's stuff disappearing from Russian supply depots, getting sold to weapons brokers, then being sent all over the place, and a bunch of it is doubtless ending up in Iraq. If they ever run out of the half a megaton or more of conventional explosives we left unguarded, and the millions of rounds of ammunition in the country, they'll have guys lining up ten deep to sell them fresh stuff.

And then there's the fact that we kind of help feed the arms market. You remember those gun buyback programs, where the US military was paying twice the going street rate to buy people's weapons from them? How many people brought in broken, useless weapons, got their money, then went out and bought new guns with the money we gave them?

(between Franken and Randi) that 10 US soldiers were bombed and killed today. Anyone else hear this?

6. Pile 'em high!

Grass Bush

Pile the bodies high in Austerlitz and Waterloo Iraq
Shovel them under and let me work--
I am the grass; bush; I cover all.

And pile them high in Gettyburg Baghdad
And pile them high in Ypres and Vedum Mossoul and Al Fallaujah

Two years, ten years, and passengers ask the conductor:
What place is this?

I am the grass bush.
Let me work.

Carl Sandburg

Bring the troops home and not in boxes.

7. Bush said over a year ago, that we will fight this even if it is unwinnabe
Welcome to the next three years, at least, unless members of both sides of Congress cultivate some common sense, real soon.

11. bush knew!
Bush knew that 11 soldiers were killed in Iraq before he went into the rose garden to give some good news on the economy Friday morning. As you will recall he did not mention it. 26 minutes later after his speech the news broke to the press. McCellan said bush knew before he gave the speech....

14. They're probably Soviet-era Russian models.
The Russians were Iraq's biggest supplier of infantry hardware in the 80s, which is where most of this stuff comes from. There's also ample stolen Russian munitions on the black market.

We have rockets too, but it's a lot easier to target a Hummer or a foot patrol for a rocket attack than it is to return fire against one or two guys who could be almost anywhere.
