“I will do everything I can, including a filibuster, to stop this Patriot Act conference report, which does not include adequate safeguards to protect our constitutional freedoms. The version of the Patriot Act that was signed today is a major disappointment. I appreciate that it includes four-year sunsets on three controversial provisions, but merely sunsetting bad law is not adequate. We need to make substantive changes to the law, and without those changes I am confident there will be strong, bipartisan opposition here in the Senate.

This isn't about stopping Patriot Act reauthorization. The President could sign Patriot Act reauthorization legislation into law tomorrow if the House would just take up and pass the compromise Senate bill that was approved unanimously in the Senate earlier this year – a bill that includes important and reasonable privacy protections. The conference committee had the opportunity to fix many of the provisions of the Patriot Act to which Americans across the political spectrum have voiced their opposition over the last four years. Unfortunately, they decided not to listen. This battle is not over.”

He is the most fiscally conservative member of the senate. He believes in a strong but intelligent defense. How is he radical? All but the most right wing Republicans vote for him.

I met him at the airport - flying coach. He is great - extremely personable. He has my vote if he wants it for the primaries.

From Dick Morris to O'Reilly, they have virtually made Hillary to be the unstoppable and inevitable Democratic nominee, the former going as far as speculating about a Condi vs Hillary race.

We heard this same mantra back in '04, it was called "electability" then, and look at what that got us!

... I was at UWGB when he ran for US Senate in 96, and several of my other Poli Sci folks were on his campaign (I was a volunteer on the state senate campaign for Barbara Lawton, who is now Lt. Gov. of WI :applause: ) ...

He came to campus a couple times and seemed to truly be a traditional Wisconsin Progressive of the Fightin' Bob mold (Dem, not GOP, though) and was about as down to earth as Howard Dean. His tv ads were hilarious; made to look like they were made with a handheld camcorder, he would walk up to the gates of his opponent's mansion and ring the bell ... "Nobody's here ... how can he represent the folks of Wisconsin if he's never here ? Oh well, he must be on one of those important around-the-world junkets ... " and "Wouldn't it be nice if everyone in Wisconsin could afford a house like this?" sort of ad ... friggin' beautiful.
